Pilote Référence P716 LPR named Motorhome of the Year 2013 and Fixed Double Bed Coachbuilt Motorhome of the Year.

The Pilote Référence P716 LPR has been named the overall winner of the Motorhome of the Year 2013 award, as well as the winner of the Fixed Double Bed Coachbuilt of the Year by Motorcaravan Motorhome Monthly (MMM), the UK's best-selling motorcaravan magazine, andWhich Motorhome, the UK's number one magazine for motorhome testing, at their prestigious 2013 awards.

This is the second year running that MMMmagazine has joined forces with Which Motorhomemagazine to create one set of combined awards that recognise the best new campervans and motorhomes on sale in the UK.

The Motorhome Awards 2013 were sponsored by the Caravan Club and were held
at the Luton Hoo Hotel on Wednesday 9th January, with dealers and manufacturers from the motorhome industry present.

Expert and experienced judges from the two magazines considered all the models new to the UK market or that have undergone significant design specification upgrades in the past 12 months.

In selecting the winners, the judges considered the functionality of the layout, the build quality and overall usability, as well as how the motorhome performs on the road and on the campsite, right through to whether it offers value for money.

The Pilote Référence P716 LPR is a great example of a fixed double bed motorhome. The judges also selected it as the Motorhome of the Year 2013 as it impressed them the most by offering value for money, superb design and impressive levels of equipment all in a highly desirable package.

The runner-up in the Fixed Double Bed Coachbuilt of the Year was the Rapido 891F A-class, while the Adria Sport 690 SC and the Auto-Trail Tracker RB were also nominated in this class.

Editor of Which Motorhome and head of the judging panel, Peter Vaughan, commented: "Pilote has made huge strides in quality and design over the last couple of years and this latest Référence benefits also from the French company's efforts to appeal specifically to British buyers. It also looks great value for such a well-equipped motorhome."

While Daniel Attwood, Managing Editor of MMM and Which Motorhome magazines, added: "These awards are the most important in the motorhome industry. Readers considering buying a new motorhome will use the results to help them decide which motorhome or campervan should be at the top of their shopping list. Therefore Pilote is to be congratulated for producing the Référence P716 LPR, which is without doubt the best new motorhome on the market this year."

The Fixed Double Bed Coachbuilt Motorhome category, which the Pilote also won, probably represents the greatest number of new sales in the UK motorhome market. The judges were looking for clever design here that allows for the desirable permanent double bed, but without compromising the vehicle's other facilities. The bed, of course, must be large enough for two, and as comfortable as a high-quality hotel bed. The kitchen must not only be practical but also reasonably spacious and well designed and the lounge should be an attractive and comfortable place to relax. But the judges were also looking for more, such as a no-compromise washroom and whether the designers had made best use of areas such as the storage space below the bed.
