This information is prepared by the Caravan Club as part of its
services to members. The contents are believed to be correct at the
date of publication.

Documents required
If you are stopped by the police in any country, you will need
to prove that the vehicle(s) belong to you (or that you have
permission to drive/use them), they are in a road worthy condition,
and they are insured. You will need to produce the following
documentation (originals not photocopies):

- Insurance certificate
- MOT certificate if the vehicle is over 3 years old
- V5C document (log book)

Caravan
|
If you have a CRIS document then it would be advisable to carry
this as well, even though it is not a legal requirement to do
so. |

Required documents

Driving Licence
|
- All driving licences issued in the UK are legal to use in EU
countries
- International Driving Permits (IDPs) can be obtained from
selected Post Offices, The AA and the RAC.
Note
if you have an all green licence issued before 1991 which does
not conform to EU standards or have a pictorial representation of
what you are allowed to drive/tow we would strongly recommend that
you change this for a photo-card licence or carry an International
Driving Permit, due to problems with translation.

Passports
|
- Passport information can be found at www.passport.gov.uk or
telephone 0300 222 000.
- It is a good idea to have six month's validity on your passport
in case your return journey is delayed.

CCI - Camping Card International
|
- Nearly all campsites in Europe will accept a CCI card instead
of your passport when you check-in at reception, it also provides
public liability insurance.
- A CCI card
is included in our Red Pennant travel
insurance, or can be bought on its own for £5.50, by
calling 01342 336633.

EHIC - European Health Insurance Card
|
- Cards can be obtained from www.ehic.org.uk or
by calling 0845 606 2030.
- The EHIC card allows you to obtain reciprocal state-provided
emergency health care in all EU states.
- Carry a few photocopies of this document as it may be retained
by a hospital or clinic where assistance has been requested.
Notes
Only basic emergency cover is included and it is strongly
recommended that additional travel insurance, such as The Caravan
Club's Red Pennant travel insurance
is also taken out.

Car / motorhome
|
- Green cards (for motor insurance) are no longer a legal
requirement for travelling in EU countries.
Contact your car / motorhome insurance company to:
- Check that you are covered for the countries you are planning
to visit.
- Check if there is a limit to how long you can stay
overseas.

Caravan
|
Contact your caravan insurance company to:
- Check that you are covered for the countries you are planning
to visit.
- Check if there is a limit to how long you can stay
overseas.
Notes
The Caravan Club 5c's insurance policy
includes 180 days European cover.
Although your insurance policies may cover you to tour overseas,
they will not necessarily cover the cost of repatriation back to
the UK. Our Red Pennant travel insurance
covers continuation of holiday and full repatriation back to your
home.
