Rozenhoedkaai, one of the landmarks in Bruges

Moules-frites, beer, chocolate, waffles - you'd be forgiven for thinking that a trip to Belgium is all about the cuisine! The café culture in Belgium offers a relaxed pace of life and a sociable environment. While the many culinary options of this small and welcoming nation are definitely a highlight, there are many other reasons for a visit.

Bruges is one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe, and offers history and culture abound. The flat north of the country is a great base for exploring by bike, and there are many cycle paths and routes to enjoy, even along Bruges' famous canals. Ghent similarly has a myriad of historical delights and the seaside resort of Ostend has a pretty promenade and a wide sandy beach. At the other end of the spectrum is the cosmopolitan capital, Brussels, where you will find enough museums and art galleries to keep you busy for days. Comic hero Tintin originated in Belgium and you can learn everything there is to know about him at the Comic Strip Museum in Brussels.
