Beautiful bay, South of France
The South of France has long been one
of the most popular holiday destinations in France, with idyllic
coastlines and mountains, quaint hilltop villages and vibrant,
cosmopolitan towns; this is an exciting and exotic region to
discover. Covering Provence, the Alps and the Côte d'Azur, the
region offers a variety of activities from hiking along the Grand
Canyon du Verdon to riding the famous Camargue white horses. Here
you'll find 'jet set' resorts such as St Tropez, Cannes, Cap Ferrat
and Cap d'Antibes plus the quieter towns like Grasse, a charming
place famed for its perfume.
While the many beaches that border the
Mediterranean offer white sands and warm seas during the summer
months, day trips to the various regional towns and cities are a
definite must. Marseille, France's oldest city, boasts a
cosmopolitan ambience with top-class culinary experiences and the
hustle and bustle of its port. Or for a more serene holiday
experience spend time discovering Avignon, once the papal
residence, or nearby Orange, with stunning Roman ruins and
amphitheatre. With Greek and Roman monuments scattered across the
countryside, fields of lavender and sunflowers and the beautiful
scenery, it's no wonder artists like Cézanne and Van Gogh loved to
paint here.
