About the National Cycle Network (NCN)
The NCN (co-ordinated by Sustrans) offers 12,000 miles of signed
cycle routes throughout the UK - that means almost 75% of the UK
population are within two miles of the Network.
One third of the Network is on traffic-free paths, along
riversides, through parks, or following disused railway lines and
canal towpaths. The rest is on quiet minor roads and traffic-calmed
streets. These well-marked routes bring the countryside to towns
and cities, for walkers and cyclists, young and old, and those with
prams and wheelchairs.
