The Raptor Foundation

I stopped here for one night. Was made very welcome by friendly staff at the Raptor foundation. The facilities were clean. The shower was good and hot, not one of the push-button ones! The paddock where the pitches are was pretty well flat and I had no trouble finding a level spot for my campervan close to a hook-up point. There is a cafe that can be accessed without entry to the foundation. Whilst there visiting the Raptor Foundation is an absolute must. Discount entry for campers. There are talks and flying displays throughout the day which are informative and fun. The birds and animals there look in fantastic condition and you can tell that the staff/volunteers there really care about them. There was some road noise during the day but nothing that bothered me at night. I wouldn't not hesitate to stay here again when I'm passing that way.

Stopped here for 3 nights on our way back home and very glad we did so. The site is a basic CL with EHU, drinking water, grey and chemical water disposal all at a very reasonable cost. There are toilets and one shower available a short walk over at the Raptor Foundation and they are for exclusive use for the CL site and open 24 hours. A little in need of some TLC but a great bonus if you want a little more room than your own facilities allow. The main attraction of this CL is, however, the raptors. Staying here will give you a reduction on entry to the Raptor Foundation and make sure you go - it is fascinating, you will not be disappointed. They have a huge number of birds of prey plus reptiles and meerkats. All rescued and lovingly cared for by the dedicated staff. There are informative 'meet the birds' sessions and flying displays - education and entertainment all in one. Within easy reach by bike is St Ives - charming market town on the river with cafes, bars and restaurants. Supermarkets and Eric's Fish and Chips on the ring road around the town. Hemingford Grey is a couple of miles on from St Ives. A chocolate box riverside thatched roof village with an "Intriguing Mediaeval Home" - The Manor -that is open to visitors but you do need to contact the owner to arrange your visit. We were fortunate enough to turn up just as a tour was starting and the lovely WI ladies graciously allowed us to share their visit. This is a lived in home, not a sanitised historical landmark and an absolute treat to learn about it's history and occupants. Oh, there is also a very good pub/restaurant in the village as well. Another couple of miles further on is National Trust Houghton Mill but check the website for opening hours.
