Why stay here ...

Our CL is a tranquil site on a small working farm close to Dovedale and the iconic stepping stones at the foot of Thorpe Cloud Hill.

The chocolate box village of Ilam and the National Trust Ilam Hall is only a couple of miles away and the picturesque market town of Ashbourne approx 4 miles. You can stroll across our fields to the local village pub serving both meals and guest ales or take a short walk from the cl to the timeless village of Tissington, where you can enjoy refreshments whilst sat next to the village duck pond.

Alternatively you can be on the Tissington trail within 0.5 mile and enjoy 20 miles or so of safe level cycling along the former Ashbourne to Buxton railway line.

The towns of Buxton, Bakewell and Matlock are all less than half an hour away whilst  water sports at Carsington Reservoir are 15 mins.

Alton Towers is approx 20 minutes away.

The beautiful country houses of Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are also only half an hours drive.

A public footpath crosses the CL which takes you onto endless miles of walks through the stunning scenery of the Peaks and Dales.

The site itself is a part sloping field with electric hook-ups and plenty of space for awnings etc. There is an adjacent grassed area for children to play safely whilst still within view of your pitch.

Fresh farm eggs from our hens are available daily and our own reared pigs producing the best bacon and sausage ever is also available subject to availability.

Our CL is certainly a place to relax whilst listening to the sheep bleeting and take in the beautiful view from your caravan with the only disturbance being a 1930's Tiger Moth Biplane giving pleasure flights over Dovedale or the Hot air balloons taking off from just down the lane.

Dogs are welcome.

Motor homes - please enquire whether ground suitable in winter months.

May 2021

Hollington End Farm
When we decided to go to this site we looked at the reviews, and were slightly put off by the last one. I am very glad to say that the last review was not our experience at all. The site was easy to find, easy to access, and we were welcomed on site. We had a choice of pitches and the friendly owner gave us advice and help pitching if required. Yes the site is sloping (except for pitches 1 to 3 which are flat), but there were plenty of ramps and blocks provided to cater for this, and it didn't cause too many problems in pitching the awning. The site was well maintained, grass cut, bins emptied etc. There were the usual facilities water (with a hose reel), waste into the hedgerow, toilet emptying point. We did not find the road busy or noisy. Pitches 1 to 3 (by the road) would of course get more road noise. There was some pedestrian traffic from the footpath between pitches 3 and 4, but this was not intrusive. The site is well situated for local attractions / places to visit / walks etc, and was a 10 minute car drive into Ashbourne for shopping. The vilage of Tissington, with it's various attractions and trail, was about a mile away. We found this site very accomodating, as we have a large caravan, awning and 4 dogs.

A bit disappointed

Hollington End Farm
This site is very conveniently located just off the A515. The road passing the site leads down to Dovedale and is a busy road. If you are pitched close to the road it is quite noisy. The field slopes but there are lots of useful bits of wood around to help level the van. It is not clear what this site is, when we arrived we were confused by the three vans pitched at the top of the field and then there were at least three other pitches occupied. We phoned the farmer to ask where we should go and he was not very helpful. He told us not to go on Pitch 3 as someone had booked that as they were there for 10 days. Our stay was for two weeks. In the end we chose pitch 4. It was not clear to us that a public footpath runs through the site, between pitches 3 & 4, had we pitched where the no 4 is located the many walkers would have had to walk through our awning to keep to the footpath. We were very tempted to put a ‘if you can read this sign you are too close to our awning’ sign up as some walkers were clearly fascinated by us strange caravaners and could not resist staring. My advice, avoid pitch 4! During our stay, on some occasions there were as many as 11 vans on site. The field is large though but because of Covid we had chosen small 5 van farm sites and the over booking of this site annoyed me. This was also the only site during our month away during the Covid -19 Pandemic that made no provision for the safety of its guests. Every other CL had bacterial spray or hand gel around the bin store and water taps. This is a lovely part of the world. And apart from the noisy road , the walkers and being under the flight path of East Midlands Airport we had a very enjoyable stay.

A Gem in the Peak District

Hollington End Farm
Stayed here for our first week with our grandchildren in mid August. Access to site is good and whilst sloping there are plenty of levelling blocks and it was easy to level the van. The one way system round Ashbourne is fine so don't be put off although the hill out on the A515 is a bit steep but again should not give problems for a well balanced unit. Plenty of walks direct from the site but if visiting the Stepping Stones at Dovedale or the village at Tissington try to avoid the weekends since can be very busy. Ample choice of shops in Ashbourne also Buxton and Bakewell are driveable if needs be. The road to the site from the A515 was a bit busier than expected but this is one of the routes down to the Dovedale Stepping Stones hence the 4stars for peace and tranquility otherwise it would have been 5stars all round. Graham and Gina made us feel most welcome throughout our stay and yes we do recommend it and yes we will be returning. As stated it's A Gem in The Peak District.

If Carlsberg did campsites...

Hollington End Farm
Really pleased with finding this site and will be back. I have only used one CL before so unsure what to find but this was just about perfect but do remember your level blocks to add to the ones provided. There is 2 or 3 hard standing pitches at the entrance to the site otherwise the other ones are on sloping grass with easy access to the driveway that runs through the centre of the site. Easy water and waste access with a very long hose pipe if needed. Bins provided. Open fields all around with walks to Tissington in one directions (about 20 mins) and Thorpe in the other (about 30 mins to stepping stones). Dog pub around 10 mins across the fields or use the road if you prefer. Select a pitch on arrival and Graham will find you to help out with levelling.

Excellent CL - Can't wait to go back

Hollington End Farm
We have just spent 3 nights at Hollington End Farm and what a treat it was. The only negative (and it is a small one) is that it took a while to get the caravan level. However, Graham very kindly provides lots of blocks and planks of wood to assist so don't let this put you off. Graham is a delight to deal with, nothing is too much trouble and he is very accommodating and more than happy to help in whatever way he can. If you have dogs this is a fantastic CL as Graham happily lets the dogs run free in his surrounding fields (when there are no farm animals present obviously). His gorgeous dog, Sid, had a great time playing with our two Labradors and it was so nice to allow them to run around together. There are great walks directly from the site which Graham will happily tell you about and his recommendations for pubs to visit and where to eat were second to none. You must go to the Izaak Walton bar at Dovedale. The food was exceptional, the staff and service second to none and you can take your dog! There is a great walk along the river at the Stepping Stones, Dovedale – you can do it from the CL but it is very steep and a good 3.5 mile hike (each way!). Alternatively, drive to the car park at Dovedale, do the walk and then end up in the Izaak Walton bar! We will definitely be returning to this lovely CL. It is quiet and peaceful, there is plenty of room and it is well positioned to visit lots of lovely areas including Tissington, the Tissington Trail, Ilam and Ashbourne to name but a few. We were lucky enough to be able to buy fresh eggs and meat from Graham whilst we were there and it was all delicious. Thanks Graham for a lovely few days and we look forward to seeing you again later in the year. 5*+++ Kas & Mike Gorton (and Stokes and Jack the Labs)
