Why stay here ...

West Seven Ash Farm CL is a quiet, rural site set on a small working farm up on the hills just above Combe Martin in North Devon.

If it's glorious views that you want, then our CL site should suit you down to the ground. In one direction you can see right down through the valley to the village, the bay and out to sea. On the opposite side of the valley the three peaks of Little and Great Hangman and Holdstone Down peep out from behind open countryside. We are in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the edge of Exmoor. Sunsets from here can be spectacular.

The site is located at the top of a large sloping field. The pitches themselves are slightly sloping, so levelling blocks would be required and wooden blocks are available on site for members to use. There are electrical hookups, plenty of space for awnings and drinking water taps conveniently placed. There is a WC, exclusive Shower and a chemical toilet disposal point on site.  Adults, children and pets are all welcome, but we would ask that dogs are kept on leads at all times as there is livestock on the farm.  We are sorry but electric cars cannot be charged on this CL.  However, there are numerous charging points within an 8 to 10 mile radius of the farm.

From the site there is a footpath walk down to Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park. Yes, it is so close that you can sometimes hear the lions roar! Or was it a dinosaur?

Combe Martin has a sand and shingle beach where you can swim, hire a kayak or explore the rockpools. The village also offers a good range of shops, activities and eating establishments where delicious local fare can be sampled. Village festivities include the Hunting of the Earl of Rone over the Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend and a whole week of fun Carnival activities in early August.

This site is ideally situated to enjoy the whole of North Devon. For walkers, Exmoor and the South West Coast Path are very close. The superb beaches at Woolacombe, Saunton and Croyde are within easy reach as are the picturesque towns of Ilfracombe, Lynton and Lynmouth. Barnstaple, our local market town is approximately 10 miles away.

This is a working farm so please expect some activity during the day but in the evening it will be just you and nature.

A view of north Devon.

As previous comments have suggested, this is a lovely site but not without it's challenges. The site is accessed off a typical Devon farm lane, which winds it's way down towards the site, & may prove difficult for large wide outfits. There aren't any 'passing by' places along the lane, other than drive entrances to some dwellings, which probably aren't sufficiently wide to accommodate an outfit. You certainly would be in a 'pickle' meeting something coming in the opposite direction. Unlike other CL.'s we've used with similar problems, the owner doesn't appear to have a policy of arrival & departure time to help prevent such a problem occurring. The only way to stop a problem would be to walk up or down the lane to stop others entering or leaving the site. Past the farm buildings, there is, as already mentioned, an uneven fairly steep loose scalpings drive to the site.Indeed,it would be very wise to get into low gear, drive and just don't stop until you reach the actual CL. The hard drive extends the length of the CL site to a turning point at the end. Pitches are marked along this long strip of land and levelling blocks would be needed. The grass is kept fairly short. Access to water & EHU points are well defined as are the refuse bins and waste disposal point. However, and purely our own opinion, because of the slope of the site, an awning might be difficult to erect, something we didn't attempt during our stay. The views across the hills and towards Coombe Martin are quite lovely & the site is undoubtedly peaceful. Ofcourse, because the site is situated high up, in bad weather, it has lots of exposure to the elements..no protection from strong winds coming off the sea. The owner makes regular visits to the site. We enjoyed our stay, the weather was kind to us & the views of the lovely North Devon area are outstanding but we would probably not choose this CL again.

Stunning Views

This C/L has an amazing view down to Combe Martin Bay. It has a fairly steep gradient from the farmyard up to the site, the road is loose gravel so on arrival don't stop when travelling up the hill. All in all its a lovely site with good facilities. I will stay here again when i'm next in the area

Really very good.

We stayed here for five nights in August ‘19. We chose this CL for convenience to the location of our niece’s wedding. We struck very lucky. Site is wonderfully located with great views; Hugh and Dennis are welcoming and informative. Great walking along the coast to Woody Bay and good lunches at Hunters Inn.

Perfect for us

So tranquil and stunning scenery. Dennis and Hugh were so helpful when we had a problem and very friendly. The pitches are sloping so blocks are needed as stated. Shower and toilet very clean. We had great weather mostly and would definitely recommend. Our two dogs had. Great time. There is plenty to see and do in the area

Peaceful and beautiful location

Having booked in to another site locally that wasn't to our liking we spent a few minutes on the Caravan Club app and found the delights of West Seven Ash farm. Dennis couldn't have been more helpful and his directions and instructions led us straight to the magnificent site. Pitched high up on the valley looking down in to Combe Martin the location is stunning. Both Dennis and Hugh regularly on hand tending to the site and ensuring all was well couldn't have been better hosts. A superb location for coastal exploration and walks on Exmoor. We thoroughly recommend the valley of the rocks and Hunters Inn for local walks. Great site, great people to deal with. Brilliant!
