Why stay here ...

Coopers Croft Cattery CL is a quiet, peaceful site, set in a meadow behind boarding cattery in the beautiful countryside of East Sussex. The site itself is surrounded by fields and approached via a tarmac drive. There are five all weather hardstandings and electric hook ups. We are happy to accept well behaved dogs and children on the site. Access to the site is easy, directly off the A271 just outside the village of Herstmonceux, but the setting of the site well back from the road makes for a peaceful spot.

The site is an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area, with numerous fishing lakes, beaches and many National Trust properties within easy reach. The historic town of Battle is a short drive away, along with easy access to the South Downs national park, beauty spots such as the Cuckmere Haven and Beachy Head, and lovely seaside towns of Eastbourne, Hastings and Bexhill within easy reach. For those who wish to travel a little further afield, Brighton is about 40 minutes drive away, as is Tunbridge Wells - both worth a visit. Herstmonceux is also home to the castle and observatory, worth a visit whilst you’re staying with us.

There are local shops, pubs and restaurants a short walk away in Herstmonceux village, including a village store, two local pubs, two restaurants (The Sundial and The Eastern Promise) and a wider range of shops 5 minutes drive away in Hailsham. The original Truggery is next door to Coopers Croft too! There are a huge range of country pubs in the area who also do great food, including The Merrie Harriers at Cowbeech, which is within walking distance (about 40 minutes).

On arrival at the site, go through the double gates and take the driveway to the right (sign for CL), when you get to the gate at the bottom of the drive there are information sheets in the box with details on where the water, waste etc. is located.

What a lovely find

This site is accessed through two sets of gates and nestled behind a home and cattery, the water is easily accessed as well as the waste disposal area, and the recycling and bins are by the entrance. It is very quiet and tranquil with the odd chicken heard unobtrusively in the morning. The site has a magnificent willow tree as the focus in the centre with well spaced large hard standing ares around. In the surrounding villages you can find excellent pubs with nearby Hailsham for the large superstores. The owners are lovely and helpful we will definitely return.

What a gem

What a gem. We had a wonderful 2 weeks at this site. Well signposted and easy access road to this beautifully landscaped CL with spacious flat hardstandings. Lovely view and quiet. Well organized with very friendly and helpful owners. We will certainly make it a regular.

First Class CL

We have been coming to this site for a few years now. The situation is ideal and many local attractions and towns, Bexill, Hastings, Beachy Head,Hailsham, Seven Sisters, Brighton and Seaford for example are within comfortable driving distance and well worth visiting. The site is very well maintained and attractive with easy access and is very quiet. Can't comment on the TV reception as we have a Freesat system which is fine. The pitches are pretty level, but on some, a levelling block is useful. Water and chemical disposal are easily accessible, albeit up a slight slope. Sue and Peter are excellent hosts, friendly and informative, but without being intrusive. I don't recognise a previous comment about collecting money shortly after arrival, I've never been asked to pay, as I always pay when I see them at some time during our stay. A lovely site which we will continue to enjoy.

Overall disappointing

On a positive note the site was handy to Polegate railway station for Brighton, Eastbourne and surrounding area. However the site was generally untidy. Whilst the grass was well cut we had nettles and thistles immediately surrounding our pitch, and the water and chemical emptying point was accessed up a grass embankment. A little bit moreTLC wouldn't go amiss.
