Why stay here ...

Our CL is a quiet site, surrounded by sheep or cattle, set on a smallholding within walking distance to Hylands Park for the many events that are held there annually or just for walking the rest of the year!

We are 2.5 miles to Chelmsford train station or 3 miles to Ingatestone train station both with direct links to Stratford and Central London within 20 minutes so we have easy access to both Essex and London but are outside the LEZ and are surrounded by countryside.

We also have good road access being situated midway between the A414 and the A12. We are not within easy walking distance to a bus-stop as we have no pavements near us.

We welcome adults, children and well behaved dogs. Each pitch has electric hook up and plenty of room for an awning if required. There is a stream that runs along the bottom of the field.

We live on site but also have an honesty box for payment and are always available by telephone if a member has any problems at all.

Our showers and toilets are well maintained and easy to access and our WiFi is of good quality.

Facilities on site ...

  • Dog walk from site
  • Shower (exclusive use)
  • TV reception: fair
  • WC (exclusive use)
  • Wi-Fi

Perfect for visiting Hylands Park and Writtle Chelmsford

Corner Cottage Estate
We stayed on a hardstanding pitch, the field is closed at this time of year as its soaked and we knew that before arrival. We had a nice slightly elevated hard standing pitch and pitched so we had a lovely view of the fields, sheep and trees. There's industrial units or farm buildings behind which aren't quite as pretty but that's OK, just don't look that way. There was no disturbance from any of that, in fact we were the only ones on the CL (there looked to be 3 seasonal pitches in an area behind us but no one was there). You can hear the road occasionally as mentioned in another review but it was absolutely not a bother, just passing traffic. Toilets and a shower and wash station are an absolute bonus. We didn't use the shower but the toilets were great. We met Jenny shortly after arrival and she was lovely, popped over straight away after a quick phone call and sorted us out. Electric is now charged separately, we stayed 2 nights, 3 days and spent about £4 a day for a rough guide. We'd particularly chosen this site to visit Hylands Park as you can walk there from the site (a little bit of road walking to get to the footpath) but we had torrential rain all night and half the morning beforehand so in the end drove there (literally 5 mins) once at Hylands Park there are lots of paths to walk that are paved or rough gravel which was great as it made for good walking. Writtle is a 5 min drive away and although tiny its pretty and worth a visit and we saw there was a cycleway into Chelmsford that only takes 15 mins apparently so another stay we may make a day and walk that as imagine it will follow the river Cam in parts. We'd like to come back and stay again when hopefully the field will be open and dry and we can do the walk we'd planned :D.

Weekend Stay

Corner Cottage Estate
We stayed at Bumpstead’s Cottage CL for 2 nights following lockdown. Access is very easy from either the A12 or A414 although you need to look our for the C&MHC sign otherwise you’ll miss it. It’s a big field for only 5 pitches so you won’t feel hemmed in. The toilet and shower facilities are a credit for this CL, really clean. There’s a bit of noise from the road outside but only from the boy racers. Hylands Parks is only 5 minutes drive away and Chelmsford with all the amenities of a city 10 minutes away.

Lovely Visit

Corner Cottage Estate
I came to Essex to visit a friend and this was the nearest CL. Easy to find although it could do with a sign as you come round the bed to show that its on the right as it’s not easy to see. I went straight past and luckily there was a roundabout not too far up the road to go round to get back. There were a few other caravans and Motorhomes there. The view of the cows in the field behind was lovely and it was a bonus to have toilets and showers on site. We didn’t use the shower but the toilets were clean and new looking. Sadly, when I went into the left toilet yesterday there were some burn marks on the plastic top of the toilet and a cigarette in the toilet. Not sure if the burns were already there and it was a coincidence about the cigarette but whatever happened it was an awful thing for someone to have done when the toilets look new. Didn’t see the owners as expected but left a cheque with my name on in the letterbox. Would visit again if in the area.

Essex is worth a visit

Corner Cottage Estate
Graham and Jenny are a great couple and made us feel very welcome. The site was easy to find and in a great location for exploring Essex countryside and Chelmsford. We loved our two weeks stay. We biked into Chelmsford several times from the site along the river via Writtle. We found plenty of countryside walking around the area with plenty of wildlife to be seen too, with a Hare visiting the site most evenings and a Little Owl making its home in one of the trees on site. We enjoyed the area...Well done Essex
