Why stay here ...

The Boxted CL site is a family run site set in 5 acres of land.  The caravan site itself is approximately 0.5 acres.  The site is run by Ties and Kate, and we have a dog (Barney), two horses (Cally and Checky), and several chickens.

Boxed is a village located approximately 4 miles north of Colchester, North East Essex.   The village is surrounded by areas of farmland.  The River Stour flows through the village, providing the boundary between Essex and Suffolk.  Old Boxted falls within Dedham Vale, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty.

Close to the site is Dedham Vale Vineyard, which hosts regular events throughout the summer, and wine tasting tours.

The site is within easy access from the A12, which provides links to London, Suffolk and Norfolk.  London Stansted airport is approximately a 50 minute drive.

Opposite the site is McLaughlin's Fruit Farm which offers fruit picking in the summer months, and fresh local produce, including vegetables and eggs.  Also in close proximity is Fillpotts Garden Centre, which has a cafe, and also sells local produce.

Within easy reach are the Essex coastline such as Mersea Island, Walton and Frinton beaches, and Southend on Sea.

Other local places of interest include:  Colchester Town (which has a lot of Roman history), Beth Chatto Gardens, Dedham and Flatford (Constable country), Colchester Stadium, Colchester Zoo, Layer Marney Tower, Colchester Arts Centre, the Mercury Theatre, Castle Park, High Woods Country Park, Colchester Park and Castle, and Bourne Mill.

The site itself provides 5 pitches on grass with electrical hook ups.  Upon entry to the site, there is a padlocked gate straight ahead which leads to the caravan field.  The combination for the padlock is changed regularly and will be provided upon booking.  The site is open all year round, but is not suitable in particularly wet weather.  Upon arrival, please head straight into the field and make yourself at home.

There is an on-site toilet and shower and recycling facilities.  The shower is operated by a coin meter and is £1.

Dogs are welcome on the site, however, we would ask that dogs are kept on a lead where possible please.

The entrance to the site can be a tight turn, especially when coming from the Boxted Village, though access from the A12 will usually bring you from the other direction.

Please note that the site is currently undergoing renovation throughout 2018 and 2019. This will include improvements to the toilet and shower block.  Prices are £10 per night with electricity and £8 without electricity, though this will increase in 2019, price TBC.

Tel:  01206 272 771, however if you are unable to get through please do not hesitate to call Ties 07922 561 888 or Kate on 07401 606 066 or email: boxtedcl@hotmail.com

Please also see our Facebook page for regular updates.

HIGHLY RECOMENDED

If you stay at this little BoxtedCL site you won't be disappointed as it has a charm all of its own. We have witnessed continuous improvements by Ties and Kate the lovely young couple who now run the site who are very friendly, welcoming, hardworking and forward thinking. I would say that once the toilet/shower block is upgraded for the new 2019 season (although it is presently clean and adequate and a nice sort of rustic) the site to my mind will be perfect. What we particularly like are the spacious pitches, pleasant views, and easy access to Colchester, north Essex, south-east Suffolk and the coast. There are so many places to visit and things to do for all age groups and a trip to the local garden centre will find you a lovely cafe/eatery for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea etc. particularly handy if you just don't fancy cooking or just want a coffee and a good chat (cafe closes @ about 4pm) So if you're wishing to visit the Colchester area and particularly Constable Country I would wholeheartedly recommend this BoxtedCL site :)

Just the ticket!

Once through the gate this proved an ideal site for us. The turn from the road and back onto it is a bit tight with the van on the back and Essex locals are not renowned for their patience but the site itself is exactly right for us. We loved the horses in the next field, the weather was very kind, Colchester town was a couple of miles away and the owners were friendly without being intrusive. It would have been nice to walk the dogs in the adjacent field rather than round the field. Well be back.

Good value

We stayed there back in July and although very good value at £10 a night,it makes this review harder to write as Ella was a lovely lady and the grass was kept well mowed, surrounding area was lovely. The problem we found was Ella's dog Barney was using the campsite to use as a loo and as we were the only other dogs owners there we found ourselves explaining to other campers that it was not our dog mess that was not being picked up. We did let Ella know that this was happening and she said that she would keep an eye on him but she still did not come over and pick up, which sadly I felt let the site down.

Would we go again no.

Yes it is a nice site. Very good for local and further away attractions ie National Trust What lets the site down is the toilet and shower. It does need to be cleaned at least once a day. It was not cleaned once during our recent stay. We will not be going again.

Excellent CL

Level grassy site with easy pitching, although the entrance would be a little narrow for large outfits. Some have been critical of the shower and toilet (there is only one); it may not be beautiful, but it's clean and functional - great value at £10/night. Easy access from the A12: head to Colchester from junc. 28 then take 1st L into Axial Way (sp local traffic).  Next L into Severalls Lane then Langham Rd, then R at T-junc into Straight Rd.  Site is on R just before next junction.  All these roads are good for caravans.
