Romford is a large suburban town situated in East London, and there’s plenty of interesting history to discover in this part of the capital.
Romford has been a market town since 1247, when King Henry III granted the town a Market Charter for livestock, and the current shopping centre sprung up around the original trading area. To this day, the market is considered to be one of the best in the south-east.
Visitors can enjoy the view of the River Rom, which flows through the town, and take a look at the remains of Romford Brewery, which dates back to the 18th century.
One of the most interesting former residents is Colonel Blood, who used to run an apothecary shop in Romford and is famed for plotting to steal the Crown Jewels.
