Small Quiet site - very welcoming - good location - excellent value

Barracks Farm
We have done boats, campervan, and trailer tent before but this was our first time with a caravan so rather experimental. We just did a two night stay only 30 miles from home at the beginning of April with Grandad, Granny and two young grand daughters. It was a great success. The weather was kind and the site owners were very welcoming on a really personal basis. The owner took our two young girls with his own daughter, same age, around the small farm and showed them the goats, geese, chickens etc. There were sheep near to lambing in the next door field. They also farm beef cattle. There were wonderful fresh eggs for sale at only £1 for a half dozen (some large some bantam) and we were made a gift of the first young sticks of their early ruhbarb crop. Truly friendly! The facilities are fairly basic but there was electric power on all the 6 grass pitches and fesh drinking water and waste disposal all close by. There is no shower or toilet block but we were self sufficent so it did not bother us. The site is not difficult to find and access. It is flat and was fairly dry at a time of year when many other sites had turned us down because they were too wet. You need only drive a short way to find the local pubs and walks but there are plenty and the owners will give you helpful advice. Alresford is an attractive old market town close by. Winchester is about 30 minutes easy drive and very well worth a visit if you have not seen it before. Near Winchester (about 20 mins drive) is the Winchester Science Centre - great for kids and even adults. The Watercress old railway line is an enjoyable day outing for kids and also for people new to the area looking for a day out the Portsmouth historic dockyard (HMS Victory etc) is not to be missed about 40 mins drive away. Overall the site is small but with all the basic facilities - well run and very welcoming and within easy reach of plenty of attractive activities for all tastes. Thoroughly recommended - just what Certified Locations are all about.

Bank Holiday Break

Barracks Farm
I had initially booked for the Friday and Saturday nights but I enjoyed the area so much I decided to stay another night. There was lots to explore, I would recommend Gilbert Whites house, worth booking online for a discounted rate. The garden was beautiful and the cake was superb! Sunny field with plenty of space on each pitch, and lovely time of year with all the baby animals. Everyone was friendly and as a woman on my own I felt really safe. Thank you for your hospitality Sarah and Rory

A lovely stay in glorious sunshine 🌞

Barracks Farm
Had a lovely stay to explore Chawton, Selbourne and see our daughter. Quiet lanes to cycle on, even for a beginner like me. The site is very well kept, open aspect, welcoming owners and the added bonus of seeing orphan lambs and a calf being bottle fed every afternoon.

A great site and always a warm welcome

Barracks Farm
For those who are not aware, the lovely owners Sarah and Rory moved home across the family farm site and moved the CL field with them (it used to be Starter Gate farm). The new field (now at Barracks Farm) is a much sunnier south facing field giving a chance to see lovely sunsets and a much more open view of the sky (good for satellite watching). All the pitches face south and overlook another field to the front where at the moment orphan lambs and a calf can be seen playing. As with the previous site the CL backs onto the caravan store but this didn't cause us any issues regards noise. The pitches give a lot of room and we didn't feel squashed in. The field is relatively flat and level, with a water tap at the centre of the fence so it's not too far to go, with recycling facilities and rubbish bins by the field entrance and the toilet waste point close by. We have just come back from a lovely long weekend there plus were there for a week's holiday a few weeks ago (just as they first opened the new CL site). It's a fantastic location for exploring the area, close to a lot of good walks, the Watercress Line steam railway and within easy distance of the south coast. We look forward to returning soon to what has become our "go to" local CL.

A very welcoming CL

Barracks Farm
The owner couldn't have been more helpful when booking. Very clear and comprehensive printed guidance to the site. These are strange times with Covid precautions in place, and so payment was made online with a prompt confirmation. Access to the site is really easy. The site itself was well kept with close mown pitches with an electric hook-up between each couple of pitches. Water pressure for fresh water is good and all disposal points are well kept. Some care is needed in the centre of the field (where the grass is kept longer). I saw two units have some trouble manouvering as the ground is quite soft in places. I was caught out by not calling at the house on my arrival (in normal times I would always call at the house on arrival, but did not do so as the owner seemed anxious to avoid the unnecessary contact). As a result on the following morning after pitching overnight, when I was the only remaining visitor, I was asked to pack my 'van and move to another pitch as the pitch I had sited on had been promised to another visitor expected to arrive. It was something of an irritation as we had a timed booking to visit a local attraction, and the request to move seemed odd when the remainong four pitches were all vacated that morning. As I said in normal circumstances thus would have been avoided by personal contact. I have only given three stars for the beauty of the surroundings as this is a quiet site which is bounded on all sides with trees and hedges, and so there are no views outside the site. I would be happy come again, but would check which pitches were available.
