Poor customer service

We arrived at the Durham ox intending to stay 5 nights but in the evening when we returned to the van the electric was off. We rang the phone number provided and were told someone would put it back on. Knowing a fair bit about electric fault finding we swapped cables in case it was that and turned the other appliances off. Despite this it went off again and again. We were told that we must have something that was tripping it. We were also told the pub was shut the next day so no one would be there to attend to the problem. We asked for our money back and were still charged full price for a cold night without electric. We moved to glebe farm a few miles away in the morning and had no trouble with our electrical connection and received a warm friendly welcome from the lady there. We enjoyed our 4 nights there very much and would return. Wouldn't suffer the wooden personal service at the Durham ox if you paid us. By the way we have had the vans electrics tested and guess what they are fine!

Nice little find

Perfect location for visiting neighbouring Horncastle and Woodhall Spa. Enjoyed the short, 15 minute walk into the sleepy little town of Horncastle with an array of antique and collectables shops. Plenty of public houses and cafes. We didn't dine in the Durham Ox, but it was a very busy pub and the food looked really good. Feel slightly misled with the comment re: 'toilets but non exclusive use' when actually, the toilets are not available for use at all apart from during pub opening times; earliest of which is lunchtime. Quiet field, apart from being woken each morning by a couple of yapping terriers in the garden backing into it. Unfortunately, another CC user did not help this when he was throwing toys for his two dogs and allowing them to run across the field. It's a shame that the corner of the field we were closest too is used to store an array of stuff, when it could easily be screened off.

Great time had on CL

Lovely CL in great area. Plenty of things to do within easy distance. Found decent dog walk across nearby field (signed footpath). A must do is to eat in the pub. Good food and beer all served with a smile and pleasantness - good to be welcomed. Check pub for opening times as I'm sure that they are open more than the earlier review.

Great mini break at the Durham Ox

We have stayed here twice, once just the two of us and once with daughter and grand kids and must say we really enjoyed both stays. There was a warm welcome from the owners and staff along with all the information we needed. A lovely quiet sight with some really nice walks for the dog. Also a short walk into Horncastle to look around the shops. Will be back again soon. Rick & Mary
