A Great CL To Visit North Shropshire and South Cheshire

The barking dog referred to by a previous reviewer is long gone! This is a great CL for visiting some great little towns and museums, notably the nuclear bunker at Nantwich, the Railway museum at Crewe and of course the industrial museums at Ironbridge. Wem, Whitchurch, Newport and Wrexham are all within easy reach If you are into walking we recommend Bickerton Hill just north of Whitchurch or the Shropsire Union Canal which runs close by and has a very nice cafe at Whixall Marina. You can also go to the staircase locks near Audlem which is about a 20 mile cycle ride along the back lanes. The cycling is brilliant especially if you don't want anything too challenging. Lots of quiet lanes and at the confluence of a number of NCN tracks. The site itself has a servicable loo and shower and you can be assured of a warm welcome from the friendly and very helpful site owners.

Barking Dog

My Husband and I stayed on this site for the weekend.  We arrived on the Friday.  It is part sloping, not too much of a problem for us. Toilet was very nice.   Lovely scenery. Road was not to bad. Spoke to the owner, she happened to say that she was off work. But when she goes to work she leaves the dog in the outhouse. On the Monday morning she went to work and the dog barked and yapped continuously from early morning until we left at around midday.  We had hoped to sit outside and have breakfast as it was such a beautiful day. but instead had to close all windows and door and have the radio on to drown out the barking.  It was horrendous.  Need to sort it out.

Quiet and off the beaten track

This is a simple, but appealing CL on a well mowed field behind the owners' house. There are hook ups and two quirky sheds housing a perfectly good shower and a toilet/wash basin - so simple facilities, but everything you could need.  Access from the main road network is very quick, but the B road itself is surprisingly busy (hence less than 5 stars for peace etc) and you have to take care coming out of the CL, as some of the locals drive rather fast!!! For animal/bird lovers. there are friendly ponies in a field adjacent and young buzzards/magpies etc all around...Whitchurch is very close  and it's easy to get to Chester, North Wales etc. Would also suit those stopping off en route further North/South/West. We were down there visiting family and the owners were very helpful and flexible with us.
