Handy for the town of Beccles

After looking at the eye watering prices on main Club sites during the school holidays we decided, after many years, to give a CL a try and this one was good value for money. This CL is located on the edge of the delightful small town of Beccles in Suffolk so is ideal for anyone with a motorhome or those that prefer to leave their car on site. The site is part of a working boatyard which has moorings and has day boats and houseboats for hire. The latter could be useful if you wanted to meet up with non-caravanning friends. The CL is on a large L shaped grass area between the Gillingham Road on one side and the boatyard parking area with the mooring beyond. During our stay the ground conditions were firm. However if any motorhomers were concerned they could discuss with Simon, the owner, about the option of parking the front drive wheels on the edge of the car park as we did. There is plenty of pitching space for five units and where you set up is only restricted by how long your electric hook-up lead is as there are only two electric distribution points, but both have multiple connections. Fresh water is available from the taps next to the boat moorings which is down a shallow bank from the car park. There is a hose reel but this would only reach as far as the car park which might be OK for filling a motorhome water tank. There is a waste water/chemical emptying point near to Reception but no specific motorhome emptying point. There are two toilets for use by campers, and seemingly boatyard customers, but no showers This is not a secluded CL and there is a little traffic noise from the road and the car park is in regular use during the day, we did not find this an issue and it was quiet at night. The gates to the premises are locked overnight although there is an access code for both the main and pedestrian gates. The site also has free WiFi available but I did find this a bit intermittent. Fortunately the 4G network seemed to work well from our pitch. Card payment is accepted. The beauty of this CL is its location just a short walk into the delightful small town of Beccles. There are numerous shops and restaurants in the town and it is well served by supermarkets with Roys, Tesco and Morrisons to choose from. The immediate area is well served by public transport. There is a railway station with trains to Lowestoft and Ipswich. There is also an excellent half hourly bus service, running between Norwich/Beccles/Lowestoft. Other bus services also go to Southwold and other villages. This would be an ideal site for exploring the Broads and the Suffolk Coast.

Friendly and helpful site 😊

What can we say -a very friendly, peaceful little site which is well looked after and in a great spot to enjoy Beccles, the Broads and surrounding area. Unfortunately my husband was taken seriously ill whilst staying here but both Steve and Simon couldn't have been more supportive and although we should have moved on( and the site was full ) they contacted the Caravan club to ensure there was no issues with us staying. We stayed on our pitch and they were both helpful, ensuring we were ok. We will definitely return and hopefully get to hire a boat and see a bit more than we managed this time. Thanks again!!

Just the job

We stayed for one night this August as a stopover on the way home. Its a lovely tranquil site, with an easy walk into Beccles with all its facilities. Nice walk along the riverside path from the pitch. Toilets clean and well maintained. All in all a lovely site.

Lovely autumn break

Took advantage of lovely autumn weather for 3 day trip. Site easy to find just off main road with easy access, made very welcome with all facilities pointed out. Had the site to ourselves, but ample space so wouldn't feel crowded if full. Fairly flat lawned area backed by willows overlooking working boatyard and moorings.  Clean toilets and easily accessible waste disposal point, bit of a walk across car park to water points by moorings. Dogs welcome and free wifi. 5 min walk to bridge with choice of direction for walking either towards Oulton Broad or as we did a lovely 8ml circular walk to Geldeston Lock. 10min walk into Beccles which is an attractive market town with good choice of pubs and restaurants. Fishing and boat hire on site. Great value, who could wish for more.

Great weekend and access to river and Beccles

Absolute lovely weekend. Hired a boat too and had a very nice trip down the river. People running the site couldn't be more pleasant.
