First time visit to a CL - not sure they'll be a second....

We broke our golden rule of checking reviews before booking and booked Heaven Farm on recommendation. We'd not been to a CL before so knew not to expect a luxury toilet block/shower etc. However, when the CL advertises a toilet facility you at least expect it to be clean, it was filthy. As others have said it is a retail farm, well-stocked shops and tea rooms that are very popular. The C&MHC field is in a lovely position and overlooks the wallabies and muntjack deer, which is lovely and you are not disturbed by anyone visiting the shops etc. There is a charge of £5 each for the woodland walk - we didn't go so no idea what you got for your £5 each. There is a lawn mower museum which you can visit for a charge - we didn't. We did enjoy our stay, mainly because we had superb weather and were the only people in the field, however when it came to pay the bill we were somewhat shocked that it cost £22.50 a night! Rather a lot of money for a pitch - next time it's a club site for us!

Great disappointment

We selected this site as it advertised hardstandings. The CL area does NOT have hardstandings and due to the wet and boggy condition of the CL field we were told (after we got bogged down) we could use the car park instead. However, this farm site is open to the general public as it houses three separate franchises and is a popular start point for walks. So we had to wait until after 5pm when these other places had closed before a space became available. We moved to another CL after just one night and in the morning people were already using the car park before we left mid-morning. I would imagine during drier and warmer months this CL would be a nice place to stay as it is at the bottom of the farm site overlooking the valley with its lake. However, it should not advertise this CL as being open all year with hardstandings.

Comment from the Caravan and Motorhome Club:

Many thanks for leaving a review and we are sorry to read you had difficulties at this site. We would like to assure you that the CL Owners are working hard to improve the CL Site and we are working closely with them to help make these improvements. As such the CL is now closed over the winter period to prevent this type of situation arising again and we have updated their website listing. We have also taken the shared toilet and showers off their website listing as they are not available. The facilities are due to be rebuilt early next year when the CL will hopefully get new and exclusive toilet and showers.

Great outlook but facilities could be better

Well, we had a very peaceful stay at this CL. The mountjac deer were very tame and it was amusing seeing wallabys from our front caravan window. The Caravan Club section is well tended grass and pretty level and well screened from other sections of the site which had a Caravan and Camping cl, and other caravans pitched. The position of the water supply is not ideal, being at the top of a quite steep slope, and the showers and toilets (which are not available for use between 10 and 5 as used by customers from the restaurant and farm) are a little worse for wear and limited given the number of campers if the site was full. Lucky for us we were the only ones there, and we had a really peaceful and relaxing time. Not cheap, but overall we enjoyed our stay.

WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT

Whilst the Caravan site is okay, the water facilities to fill your water-tank is no where near the pitches, neither is the toilet facilities for emptying on-board toilet. As for Barn shop it just sold expensive plastic flowers etc, when what you need is bread and milk.As for the heaven farm shop its says on leaflet it sells bread/milk/eggs and veg it does not ! you have to go into the nearest village to buy these items. We never found this shop open even at 10am and it was shut before 4pm. The toillet/ showers were awful full of flies ( I could not use the showers ) As for the birds in cages they smelt awful, and a few moth-eaten chickens and ducks in filthy conditions and Turkeys that looked awful without many feathers I think it needs a visit by the RSPCA. Not a cheap site in August with fly ridden facilities.

Perfect spot but.....

Great area for walking. Only 5 vans on CL - makes a change! But the facilities are abysmal. The drinking water tap is below a Dovecote with usual droppings being abundant. Cannot use showers between 1000am and 5.30pm because I presume the toilet facilities are in use by visitors to the shop and cafe. Whilst in the showers anybody tuning a tap on or flushing will stop the shower from running. The CL shares the toilet facilities with the commercial camping/caravan site which in the recent nice weather was very busy. So the queues before 10 were fairly long. for £17.50 a night this was not good enough. The Chemical toilet disposal was just a manhole situated where people were queuing for the showers etc. Not good for the amount of vans on the complex. July 2013
