Busy urban CL

Have just stayed 3 nights on this great CL with the grandchildren. What great value at £15 per night for EHU, hard standing, toilet, showers and a social club membership for the duration of stay. Also good for the young ones as they play all around the cricket field and the excellent local authority park next door. We did not stay at the weekend when I understand it is busier, but it is a cricket club so expect cricketers and their families to turn up. Amazingly the steward told me that she has had several complaints from CC members about cricket being played and this spoilt their weekend!! We found it quite fascinating to watch the comings and goings of groundsmen, cricketers in the nets, funeral (using club) and other campers. Great to be able to pop in for a pint in the evening and be made very welcome. This is not a stuffy members club and in general they cannot do enough to help campers. Access to Todmorden is very easy. N.B. excellent rail service to Manchester or Leeds within 10 mins walk. Highly recommended.

How's That!

I spent one Thursday night at this site in July 2014, so that I could deliver my caravan to M. G. Caravans, who are just up the road so they could carry out some work the next day for me. The site is easy to find being directly off the A646, although some care is needed to avoid missing the gateway. Once through the gates, the pitches, are all hard standing with electric hook up are sited at the back of the cricket pitch on raised ground abutting the clubhouse where the normal facilities (that are clean and tidy) can be found. In addition, you are most welcome to use the clubhouse bar and facilities when open, if you don’t fancy the five minute walk into the town where you’ll find the normal amenities, (the chippy in the side street behind the bus stop is well worth a visit). On a cautionary note, the clubhouse is open on match days and is used for functions and events that may involve a late bar and associated comings and goings which could disturb you, if you’re ready for an early night. One solution is to join in the fun or check with the Steward at the time of your booking if there’s a function on, you can then make up your mind to stay or not. As I stayed midweek, I didn’t experience any of the problems given in previous reviews although the bar was open and members practiced in the nets during the evening. If cricket is your thing, the club hold regular county matches and your pitch ideally placed to enjoy the match. Further afield, the area has a notable history and the Pennine moor provide endless possibilities for walkers and cyclists alike. I spent the day exploring the moors above Howarth with my Grandson, Magic! worth considering, if you’re visiting the area.

Very dissapointing

As the other reviewer said this site has a number of faults, we have stayed here twice and the same thing has happened both times. When we arrived the first time we were told that the 'vans' at the end (away from the club house) were leaving that day so could we park up between two other 'vans' near the club house. The 'vans' did not leave meaning there were six of us pitched up and we were "shoe horned" in despite having booked months ago. This last weekend we did have a pitch (ufortunately near the club house and the constant noisey late drinkers, smokers and lazy people who want to park as near to the door as possible) but only for two hours when a lovely German couple tried to squeeze their 'van' inbetween ours and next door, leaving only about a foot for us to get out of the motorhome, at this point I went into the clubhouse to complain, only to be told that the 'vans' at the end (away from the club house) were leaving that day and the Germans could then move. At this point I told them that the same people in the same 'vans' at the end were here the last time we were and did not move. The steward eventually moved three cars and the poor Germans had to hitch back up and move their van right next to the clubhouse door onto a bit of grass. Needless to say the two 'vans' at the end had not moved when we left (after three days) so for the whole weekend there were 6 'vans' and motorhomes on a 5 pitch CL!!! (oh I forgot......plus two large tents!). As the other revieviewer said there is no distinction between the pitches and the car park and you do feel hemmed in....in fact if there was a fire ...well I'm not sure how you would get out.....we wont be going back.

Todmorden Cricket Club

If you like Cricket then this site is for you. But beware this site has a number of faults, the pitches are on hardstanding but the whole area is used for parking, so you feel as if you are on view or pitched on a car park. the pitch we were on was near the club house and the people using it and needing to smoke were quite noisey until about 1 in the morning. Pitches were expensive at £15 for a pitch littered with cigarette dimps. but saying that the cricket was fantastic with 5 games most weekends (weather permitting).
