Why stay here ...

CL of the Year Winners 2020 - second place

Sue and Les welcome you all to our new Sorbie School CL site which is situated in the grounds of the former primary school in the centre of Sorbie village which we have made our home. After spending most of our lives in central Manchester we fell upon this little gem, the village is very peaceful and everyone is friendly.

All our pitches are hard standing with a grassy area, and the site offers full services. We pride ourselves on our excellent heated shower facilities which consist of two showers, two toilets and a washroom, also a separate dish wash area.

Our site is an Adult only site for that perfect secluded and peaceful getaway; we boast great views and an abundance of wildlife, deer, foxes, badgers and numerous birds. The site lies immediately to the south of the Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park and on a clear evening you’ll see more stars than you could ever count and a wonderful look at our Solar System.

We are in a very central location which is served by a local bus route in to nearby Newton Stewart, Garlieston, Whithorn and Wigtown which all have lots of things to discover, and a great location to explore the surrounding areas, also a perfect stop over on your way to the ferry at Cairnryan or for your travels up the west coast.

There are many activities in the surrounding area; we have a cycling centre at Kirroughtree which has a 7stanes mountain bike course and some lovely walks, as well as being a recognised Stargazing Site. There is also Laggan Outdoor Activity Centre about a 30 minute drive away.

We have an Italian restaurant (The Pheasant) on our doorstep which serves first class food and Andrea and Morag always provide a warm welcome. There is a cosy pub in Garlieston that serves great pub grub and a Chinese and Indian restaurant in Newton Stewart. We also have a Gin Distillery that do tour and Gin tasting sessions all of these are on the local bus route. There are plenty of supermarkets and shops in the area.

We have the nearby Kilsture Forest, which is the largest patch of woodland in the open countryside of the Machars. It looks especially pretty in January, when the snowdrops are peeping through and in May, when the bluebells carpet the ground, also great dog walks in the surrounding area and we have provided a washing area for your “mucky pup” when he/she gets back.

As motor homers ourselves and have travelled around the UK and abroad, we have tried to create a clean site with modern facilities that we hope will not only make your stay pleasant and enjoyable, but will encourage you to revisit our beautiful area and CL site regularly!

For further details and booking information please see our website. Advance booking is advised at holiday or peak season.

Excellent!

Excellent CL site. Easy access from A road but no road noise heard at night. Carefully landscaped – our pitch was level and wide enough for our campervan. Space at the side to pitch an awning if wanted. Easy to book with Sue via email and arrival time is flexible. The toilet and shower facilities are better than many hotels – best we’ve ever seen on a campsite. There are two toilets and two good sized showers plus a washroom in a heated area. There is also a dishwashing sink indoors and a dog wash outside. Plenty of sanitiser at all the places where it is needed. A track outside the drive is just right for early morning/late night dog walks. The Italian restaurant a few yards away does superb takeaway pizzas – would love to visit when it is fully open too. Only a few miles away from Garlieston if you want to check out the CMC site (though personally I'd rather stay here!) Stargazing is magical when the clouds go away. There is a whisky distillery a short distance away which does interesting tours. St Ninian’s café at Isle of Whithorn is dog friendly and does lovely food. The walk to St Ninian’s cave was great too. I’m sure we will be back to hopefully get some better night sky photos.

Brilliant site

We visited the site soon after sites were opened up in Scotland. and what a wonderful way to try our first CL. It was immaculate, well equipped (the facilities were second to none ) and well run and we were given a lovely welcome by the owners and if this is a reflection of the standard of CLs what a bargain these are!!

Just wonderful

Bit of a trek to reach, but Sue and Les have a superb set-up here. It is immaculately clean with the best toilet and shower facilities I've seen anywhere. We had awful weather when there and arrived with our van plastered in mud from the local tractors accessing the main road, but Les very kindly let me hose it all down before pitching up. Pitches are generous and level. Will definitely return as there is more to this area we would like to explore and the site would be even better in good weather.

Fabulous little site!

What an absolute Gem of a site. Personally I would be disappointed if you did not think this site was a delight. On arrival we were greeted by Les, who was busy giving the immaculate lawn a trim. Later Sue popped down to welcome us. These are two of the most welcoming wardens we have ever met. The pitch's are well laid out, the beds an abundance of colour. whilst there we saw deer in the field an abundance birds. The site is sheer tranquillity! The facilities are 5 star, beautiful quality and finish, they even popped down in the morning to fire up Alexa. We really cannot recommend this site highly enough. This site has to be a contender for CL OF THE YEAR.
