Why stay here ...

LOW 10% refundable deposit plus FREE cancellations and FREE amendments*

A popular site in North Yorkshire, Richmond Hargill House Club Campsite in Gilling West, is a conveniently short distance off the A1 and adjacent to the A66. You will be pitching on a grassy, gently sloping location with magnificent views southwards over the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It would be a waste to use this campsite merely as a stopover - it has a wealth of fun activities to make your holiday memorable.

Set in the famous area of James Herriot's novels, Richmond Hargill House Club Campsite offers the opportunity to see many of the locations used within the famous series with your own eyes. The park is also the area where our greatest landscape artist, J M W Turner, travelled, painted and found the subjects for some of his most unforgettable watercolours. The local Tourist Association publishes a Turner Trail leaflet for walkers to explore, with seating placed conveniently at many of the locations from which to view the beautiful scenery that inspired his legendary images.

The area offers transport links, with a bus service into Darlington and Richmond. The site is also well placed to visit the city of Durham, with its iconic cathedral and picturesque location, and vibrant Newcastle, which offers great shopping and lots of places to eat and drink along the Quayside.

perfect stopover for Scotland trip

Richmond Hargill House Club Campsite
Very helpful and friendly warden, immaculate site and facilities. Great for stopover on Scotland trip. Read reviews saying noisy due to road noise but didn't hear any, may be due to location of pitch. Would definitely visit again.

A lovely short stay

Richmond Hargill House Club Campsite
We had a lovely stay here (despite lots of rain). Really friendly and helpful wardens (we forgot our levelling ramps and they were happy to lend us one). Site was very clean and well tended and the facilities were spotless. A little surprised to find a sign on the back of the toilet door asking us to use our own facilities where possible given the site provides these for our use and we are paying for them but other than that we had no complaints about our stay. There is road noise but the helpful wardens advised us to choose a pitch down the hill away from the road to avoid this - we did, and the noise wasn’t bad at all especially after about 9pm. We will come back to this site in the spring as there is lots to visit nearby and the views will be lovely then.

Thank you

Richmond Hargill House Club Campsite

We have stayed on dozens of club sites and this year had a seasonal pitch at Richmond. We have never been made to feel more welcome than here. Stuart and Rebecca are the warmest and most caring managers. The site is immaculate and facilities spotless. Thank you Stuart and Rebecca for a fabulous season with you.

October 2023

Richmond Hargill House Club Campsite
We've just spent 4 nights here, the wardens are so friendly it's refreshing, compared to some sites, it has a nice little shop inside for essentials. Cleanliness of the site is very good. It's got a bug hotel, herbs which you can help yourself too and if course lots of rabbits. The site is directly behind the A66 so can be noisy but the views out weigh it for us. We will definitely be back 😀
