One of the most impressively located sites on the network, Tewkesbury Abbey Club Campsite is only a short walk from the charming old town of Tewkesbury. In fact, it's almost in the shadow of the ancient Abbey from which it takes its name. With superb mature trees screening the caravan park, you and your family will feel tucked away in a quiet dream of days gone by.

Tewkesbury Abbey Club Campsite makes it conveniently easy to explore the nostalgic delights of the old town on foot - there are many historic buildings, and interesting walks to be had, as well as some excellent museums. On Wednesdays and Saturdays you can track down the odd bargain or two at the local market, or if history is more your bag you can walk the Battle Trail commemorating the famous Wars of the Roses (1471). The caravan site also offers opportunity for the romantic - take a boat cruise on the peaceful river to experience the beautiful Avon landscapes. Other places not to be missed are the Cotswold villages of Broadway, Winchcombe and Moreton-in-Marsh. There are good transport links to Cheltenham, Gloucester and Worcester and a little further afield, the Malvern Hills and Forest of Dean offer great walking opportunities. The site also makes an ideal stopover if you're heading towards the south west of the country.

We look forward to welcoming you in the new enlarged and improved reception area. We have also constructed a brand new amenity block with modern bathroom and shower facilities with family bathroom. There are 50 new all-weather pitches of which 18 are fully serviced, new motorhome waste and service points, landscaping on site and other site wide improvements.

Late cancellation call

Tewkesbury Abbey Club Campsite

Although appreciating that nobody can control the weather we were called this morning after 10.00am and told we would not be able to come into the site due to risen water levels, it seems a very late call as we would have thought there be some prior anticipation of what the situation would be earlier than on the day at 10.00am, we were also half way to the destination and to be told at such late notice really was not good, we could not arrange any alternative camps as they were fully booked out, so obviously had to turn around and head back home, well over 150 mile round trip !! The site itself and the location are superb and we have stayed several times in the past so were very much looking forward to our Easter break which has now not happened, an earlier call would have been a good idea as this situation has happened to us in the past but we were informed much sooner, in fact a few days so had time to rearrange. Great site but be wary that you may not always get in, we're certainly not happy on this occasion with the late notice !!!

Comment from the Club:

Many thanks for your review and we are sorry to hear that you are disappointed that you were unable to stay. Due to how wet the autumn and winter has been, the ground around Tewkesbury Abbey Club Campsite has remained quite waterlogged and hasn't had a chance to drain. This has meant that the flood waters encroach onto site much faster than it has in the past and recede much more slowly as the ground can't soak it up as quickly as it has over previous occasions. It is likely that this pattern will continue until the weather improves and the ground is allowed to drain and dry out.

The site team monitor the flood alert/warning graphs that the Environment Agency put out online. The location they watch for Tewkesbury Abbey Club campsite is Mythe Bridge. On Wednesday 27th March, the graph was showing a lower risk of flood but, after the rainfall then experienced, by early Thursday morning, the graph had changed to a flood warning which meant the river was going to flood again. Many site guests had been moved to pitches on higher ground on site but sadly, the site had to be fully evacuated.

The site team has to ensure the safety and (where necessary) evacuation of those already on the site (often including themselves) but will make the calls to arrivals (or a buddy site will do this on their behalf) as soon as they see that flooding is definitely going to occur.

The site team tries to balance the not wanting to cancel members' stays (as they fully appreciate the disappointment this causes) against the risk of flooding which can be difficult, particularly at wetter times of year. The local residents of Tewkesbury have commented to the site staff that they have never known the flooding to have been quite so bad, persistent or as fast as it has been over this winter.

We hope this helps address your concerns and that you are able to stay with us in the near future.

Lovely, clean spacious with fantastic bathroom

Tewkesbury Abbey Club Campsite
We stayed for 3 nights in November. The facilities are really lovely, big pitches, wonderful showers and shower block, friendly warden. The site is opposite a big park and very close to the town centre and Abbey. Tewkesbury is a lovely, very historic town within walking distance. There are walks from the town centre. Perfect really. Tewkesbury, including the campsite does flood after periods of sustained rain, we left as the water was rising. We'd definitely go back.

Site evacuation

Tewkesbury Abbey Club Campsite
The site was evacuated because of flooding. The wardens handled this very well a few of us had to move caravan late at night but no great hardship we were placed on higher ground on the road. The wardens are not to blame for the weather and did there upmost to keep people happy. We were on pitch 4 and no one thought the water would reach us but it did hey ho. The wardens were up most the night checking people were ok so fair play to them top marks. Would have been nice to of had that late night bbq🙂

Lovely weekend in Tewkesbury

Tewkesbury Abbey Club Campsite
We arrived to a warm welcome at this lovely site. Easy to find and access from the motorway. The site is very clean and tidy and we had a serviced pitch which was very large and well looked after. We were allowed to park our motorhome facing forward to take advantage of the very unexpected sunshine for a weekend in October which was great as was the opportunity to park your van anywhere between the two red pegs. The facilities were lovely and clean and we appreciated them being cleaned in the afternoon rather than the morning. The views of the Abbey are superb. The site staff were unobtrusive but you knew they were there if you needed anything. Considering the site is only a few minutes walk from the Abbey and a park the site is very peaceful and you don't really feel that you are near a town at all. There are lots of walks to enjoy and we enjoyed walking along the rivers to Deerhurst and also The Fleet Arms in Twyning.

Great Site

Tewkesbury Abbey Club Campsite
Lovely site well placed for motorway access. The facilities were excellent with a large clean warm toilet block and plenty of showers and hot water. The site staff we met were very friendly. The access to Tewkesbury is excellent and a visit to the beautiful Abbey is a must. We would recommend this site and will definitely stay here again.
