Why stay here ...

With the lovely fells soaring up and wild flowers in bloom everywhere, the Borrowdale Club Campsite is a delight to the eye. Located about 5 miles from Keswick and set in National Trust woodland, the caravan park offers numerous walking paths to explore the beautiful northern Lakes area. It doesn't have to be strenuous - forest trails, nature trails, guided walks and farm walks leave you spoilt for choice. There is a convenient bus service that runs from the site.

If the Lakes themselves are the main attraction on your holiday break, Borrowdale Club Campsite puts you within easy reach of Derwentwater, popular for its boats and vibrant waterfront, not to mention its range of pubs and restaurants. Bassenthwaite Water is also a short distance away from the caravan site and merits exploration for its Sailing Club. If more tranquil surroundings are what you're after, the charming waters of Buttermere and Crummock Water would be just the ticket, as here there is only the occasional passing rowing boat to disturb your lakeside reveries. The lovely local scenery also includes the dramatic hills of Castle Crag and Cats Bells. The hamlet of Grange, with a tea shop on the picturesque banks of the river is only a short walk away and local pubs & restaurants are within easy reach of the site.

Please note: This site does not have a toilet block.

Directions

Please only use these recommended directions for the final approach and not sat nav, due to alternative routes being unsuitable for towing. Leave M6 at junction 40 onto the A66 (Keswick). On the outskirts of Keswick keep right onto the bypass (signposted Cockermouth A66). Within 1.5 miles at the roundabout turn left (signposted A5271 Keswick, Borrowdale B5289). At the T-junction turn left; and at mini roundabout turn right and follow signposts onto the B5289. In about 4.25 miles (about 0.5 mile past Borrowdale Hotel) turn right over the bridge (care required) into the road signposted Grange, Newlands (please ignore width restriction sign, this does not apply to the bridge). The site is on the right in 1 mile. Please note: when towing, do not approach or leave site along the west side of Derwentwater. Also, before turning right off the B5289 at Grange, check that bridge (takes all caravans) is clear. Care needed through Grange village, on double humpbridge and on final approach (narrow) and turning into site.

Peaceful site with recent changes

Borrowdale Club Campsite
This is a beautiful, quiet site that we have visited regularly for the last 7 years. If you are happy to your own facilities it is well worth a visit. The down side is that it can be a dirty site, you can't stop the pine needles & slate gravel getting into the van. We go prepared & like the site enough to accept this. On our recent visit we were disappointed to see changes to the shop, there is no longer any local or fresh produce on sale & no nuts or seed to feed the birds & red squirrels, t was sad to see the feeders empty.

Peace and Quiet

Borrowdale Club Campsite

How lovely is this site with pitches between trees giving a sense of privacy not normally found at club sites.

A lovely cafe in the nearby (walkable) village of Grange. If your legs are up for a longer walk you can tread the path around Derwentwater to Keswick straight from the site. No facilities on site but water, hook-up & tv booster are available, all making for a peaceful site without the busyness of larger sites with full facilities.

A warm welcome from the site warden and such a beautiful area to return to.

Fab, helpful wardens

Borrowdale Club Campsite
We were after a getaway for a few days and booked ourselves in for 4 nights up to the end of the 23 season. What a cracking site. We were in pitch 38 which was down towards Derwent Water. All nice and quiet and within reach of the water tap which was a bonus as we didn't have to move to top our tank off. The wardens - Mick and Jo - were just great. We have stayed at many CAMC CLs and sites and these two are in our top three of hosts! The little shop they had going sold basics and some very nice Plum Bread which was happily scoffed in a single sitting. Walks are plentiful and suit a range of fitness - ambles along the lake to grab a ferry back, up to Catbells or further afield up to Newlands, Dale Head and along the ridge to Robinson. Excellent bus services into Keswick and around the circle to Buttermere and Whinlatter. £2 a ticket. Topped off with 4 days of surprisingly sunny blue sky days!

Definitely one of my favourites

Borrowdale Club Campsite
I feel like I don't have the words to describe how wonderful this site is. The staff Jo and Husband were outstanding, excellent customer service with a smile, sense of humour and calmness. Facilities are spotless and well maintained and the pitches are just wonderful. Nestled among trees we were lucky enough to have a red squirrel feeding box on the tree next to our pitch (kindly selected by the staff due to our late arrival in the dark after a long exhausting day). I bought some special squirrel food from the shop on site and was lucky enough to see them visiting the box every day along with a beautiful array of little birds, coal tits, robins, great tits, nutcrackers. It's such a peaceful place to stay and I just wish I'd had longer. No bathroom facilities and limited WiFi but who cares when you are in a place like this. We did the hike up Cat bells which was stunning, definitely follow staff advice for best route, did some walking along the beautiful lakeside where the views are gorgeous, and just watched the wildlife on site. We will definitely return.

Beautiful and Peaceful

Borrowdale Club Campsite
Defo in our top 5, this woodland site is peaceful, full of wildlife almost wild camping (but you have EH). with no toilet block it keeps bigger groups away, leaving the hardy walkers to enjoy this stunning located site. Sitting at the end of Derwant water and in the foot hills of Cat Bells, Castle Crags, High spy just to mention a few of the stunning walks all from the site. With Keswick a lovely flat walk ( 5-6 mile) along the water edge great for all your shopping needs food or retail, stop for lunch along the way at Lingholm. Red squirrels, fab birds and roe deer can all be seen from your van if you're lucky. The wardens are really lovely, and willing to help if required. We get our fix here twice a year Autumn is stunning for the colours. Just remember no toilet block or shower, but to be honest, it doesn't need it, I think it would ruin it.
