Lovely site

Start Bay Club Campsite
We love staying here! A lovely site. Very friendly and helpful wardens. Clean and well presented facilities with lots of hot water. Beautifully maintained pitches. No tv reception, but each EHU enables you to use a coaxial cable. The small shop on site does sell some useful supplies as well as fresh goods, ice creams and even a takeaway cream tea! Very convenient for the beach of Slapton Sands which is within walking distance and with various amenities such as a pub, couple of cafes and toilets. Stokely Farm Shop next door is fabulous with its wonderful meat counter, brewery and cafe. There are also a few other local pubs within walking distance nearby plus lovely walks around Slapton Ley. A great place to unwind. Travel through the villages to get to the site can be a bit hairy at times, but is very doable. My only criticism is the entrance can be a bit difficult to get out of just because you can't see that well in either direction. A well placed mirror in the hedge opposite would be a bonus.

Nice peaceful site

Start Bay Club Campsite
Lovely welcome as you arrive. Wardens are friendly and informative. We enjoyed the peace here, although you can hear the road. There is a small play area for children. Nice manageable walk to the beach along the main road. Farm shop is nearby and quite reasonable, the start bay inn is over priced two of us £45 for fish and chips and a pot of tea. There is a walk to the church house, but did not eat there.

Warm and friendly welcome

Start Bay Club Campsite

This was my first ever campsite with a new van ... the aim being to check out the van and see what I needed to get. The welcome on arrival was second to none including helping me clean the van which had got covered in mud from some country lanes (tip 1 ... follow the recommended route rather than the satnav!). As I was there for the last 2 days of the season I kind of expected the facilities to be a little tired and the staff "jaded" and looking forward to a break ... quite the reverse was true with the facilities and welcome like they had just opened at the beginning of the season! I'm be quite happe to return to this site.

Wonderful site

Start Bay Club Campsite
This was our first ever camping trip in our motorhome, and we’re glad we chose here. The site was immaculately clean, as were the toilets and shower areas. It is well connected with a short walk to the sea or a trip into Kingsbridge. We will definitely be returning as lots of other happy campers do when we spoke to them. Well done and thank you for welcoming us so well.

Nice Site - Pitches a bit small

Start Bay Club Campsite
The approach to the site for me in a small motor home was fine, a few pinch points but OK. The wardens were friendly enough, and were happy for me to move pitches to be closer to my friend. I found the pitches to be quite small, learning in mind that I had a VW type motorhome, an awning and a car, we were had pushed to get onto the pitch. I don't know how a larger caravan and awning would cope with a car to park. I encroached on the grass next to me by 3 ft as we erected the awning in biblical rain and made an error in sizing - we were made to move it, the van and the car at 4pm in the afternoon even though we explained it would be gone the next morning....... rules are rules I did request a pitch near to the toilet block as I was on my own for some of the holiday and don't like going to the loo in the middle of the night, apparently the pitches had already been taken, although I did see that they were offered to other people after I had arrived. The site is on a slope so midnight loo visits were made all the harder when you are half awake. The toilets and showers are clean, I was not however a fan of the curtains over the basin and the basins do not drain away at all. My friends made the visit enjoyable and we loved walking to the farm shop, Torcross Bay and going into the local towns but I would not return to the site.
