Why stay here ...

Set in the beautiful location of an old walled garden on the picturesque Chatsworth Estate, the Chatsworth Park Club Site in Bakewell offers nostalgic views of the sheep-cropped rolling countryside, with some lovely walks. One of our sites in Derbyshire, the caravan park is a lovely holiday retreat for the family to escape the bustle of city living. Surrounded by lots of wildlife, it is fantastic for deer watching.

The Horse Trials that take place in May and the Country Fair in September are just two of the fantastic attractions conveniently nearby the Chatsworth Park Club Site. One of the first visits on the list should be to the House, where you can immerse yourself in history as you wander round the beautifully decorated rooms, formal gardens and the famously lovely cascade. Another place for an unforgettably scenic stroll is the 1000-acre park laid out by Capability Brown. For those who want to sample and take home authentic country delights, the nearby farm shop boasts superior marmalades and jams amongst many other scrumptious treats. The village of Baslow is a 15 minute walk with a couple of good pubs, including the refurbished Devonshire Arms. Bakewell market on Mondays is recommended. Children visiting the caravan site will enjoy the farmyard and adventure playground, guaranteed to give them hours of fun.

Directions

Please only use these recommended directions for the final approach and not sat nav, as this misdirects to Chatsworth House. From the East: Turn left off A619 (Chesterfield – Bakewell) in 8.5 miles in Baslow 150 yards past Cavendish Hotel into site entrance. The entrance to the site is by private single track road, with passing places (no parking or waiting allowed). There is no access through Chatsworth Estate. At the end of the entrance drive there may be a traffic bottleneck outside reception. From the West: from Manchester at junction 1 of the M60 take the A6 to Chapel-en-le-Frith and then the A623 to Baslow. At the roundabout go straight on towards Chesterfield but just after leaving the roundabout take the first turning on the right, just before the Cavendish Hotel. From Buxton take the A6 to Bakewell and then the A619 to Baslow. Then follow directions from the roundabout as above. The site has no Late Night Arrivals Area. Please note that the bridge at site entrance has 5-ton weight limit.

Great place for Chatsworth House

This was our first visit to Chatsworth and we will be back again soon. On arrival we received a friendly welcome from the wardens especially Keith and Tracey. There were plenty of available pitches to choose from and the site and toilet block were spotless and tidy. Very relaxing site with lots of walks especially around the grounds of Chatsworth Estate. Baslow is a short walk away with a few shops and eating establishments.

Ideal spot to visit Chatsworth Estste

The wardens were nice and welcoming, doing a good job directing people into a site that has a single track entrance. We visited in February so nothing looks it’s best but I felt the site looked a little tired and full use of the land has been made to squeeze in as many pitches as possible so there’s not much open space on the site itself. You are however surrounded by wonderful parkland and the fabulous Chatsworth House. You can walk to a dog friendly pub in the village and there’s plenty of walking in the surrounding area. There was a leaking radiator in the dishwashing area that looks to have been there a while and needs fixing as water was all over the floor one morning . Lots of ducks to feed and the rooks /black birds are a bit noisy nesting in the trees 😂

First visit to the Chatsworth site

Well organised arrivals plan. The entrance is chained off to prevent visitors arriving before 1.00pm. It is a single track road with passing places to the site, so this removes the danger of two caravans meeting one another. We panicked a little as there is a fast flowing river adjacent to the site which had broken its banks following the recent storms, but fortunately for us the river receded. Chatsworth grounds were very wet. These are accessible from the site and you are given a key to access the grounds via a doorway in the stone wall. We only had five nights there but would have liked longer, however, weekends seem to get booked up very soon. The site is flat with protected pitches as a wall runs round the site. Toilets were nice and warm although are a bit tired compared to other sites which have been upgraded. Ideal spot for us as we wanted to visit Bakewell which is a 3 mile walk over the hills and to do more walking in the area. Staff were pleasant and worked hard clearing drains to reduce the amount of surface water on the ground.

Difficult to get a booking!

Difficult to think of anything original to add to all the existing reviews. We have previously tried to book the site without success owing to it's popularity so went for an off season few days. It's such a good location. Whatever you do, ensure you don't arrive earlier than 13:00. You won't get past the gate. There is still likely to be a queue but they have a good system in place to get you through to your pitch. Would recommend but please leave space for when we want to go!
