Why stay here ...

We are pleased to announce that from Friday 1st March 2019 our Cheddar Club Site will be open all year round allowing members to enjoy this particularly scenic part of the country throughout the four seasons.

One of our many Somerset caravan sites, Cheddar Club Site is situated on the very edge of Cheddar Village and boasts magnificent views of the Mendips and surrounding countryside - an absolute walker's paradise.  Amenities in the village include a variety of shops, pubs and takeaways. Cheddar Caves and Gorge and the famous Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company are all within easy walking distance of the caravan site. With Wookey Hole Caves and Mill and England's smallest city of Wells just a short drive away, you are sure to have plenty to see and do during your stay.

For the active and sporting visitor, the Cheddar Club Site offers access to loads of fun activities in the area - karting, pony-trekking, golf, off-road driving and a great cycle path are all available just a few minutes away. For fishing and water sport enthusiasts there is Cheddar Reservoir a short distance from the caravan park, with a host of different activities throughout the year. If you would rather just relax on a nice beach, Burnham and Weston-super-Mare are both within a half hour's drive, offering all the shopping conveniences you could wish for. Great Site

Had not considered this site before for some reason although we have stayed in the area. What a gem. Perfect location for town. Excellent facilities, very clean. Four showers in the ladies may be a bit tight for the busy times but spotless. The wardens, Malcolm and Jo, were ace, and then we realised we had met them before at Broadway site. Went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Excellent motorhome service point, ok it is a little awkward to get to but as it is a drive over grid you are not in the way for long when emptying and filling. We will stay again.

Christmas 2019

We stayed here at short notice and what a treat it was. There were only a handful of us over the Christmas period which was probably due to it being the first year it was open for this period, New Year was the opposite and fully booked but fortunately we left before then. We found Jo and Malcolm extremely helpful and friendly - inviting everyone in for a glass of wine and mince pie before Christmas. As others have said it's a short walk to the village, you don't have to walk on the road as there is a footpath if you turn left out of the site and go up and over the bridge. We agree with the previous comments about the Motorhome Service Point as you have to reverse back from reception to gain access to it which can be difficult if there is someone else in the queue. Apparently OH said the men's facilities were in need of upgrading but nice and clean, the Ladies are very small with only 4 showers so I wouldn't like to be there when the site is full, they were however spotlessly clean. In my opinion this isn't a site for children as there doesn't seem to be much for them in the area. Plenty of dog walks from the site. All in all we enjoyed our stay very much.

Great situation, good for touring

People will undoubtedly enjoy the situation on the edge of the village of Cheddar and close to the start of the gorge. For walking and sightseeing it's a great area. The site itself is functional rather than scenic. It has few features, with neither a children's playground nor a dog walk, although if you turn left along the lane by the stream you come to a large field where dogs can play. Staff are pleasant enough. Friday and Saturday nights can be very noisy from the adjacent football club. A large Sainsbury's is just a short walk up the road and Tesco Express a little further.

Cheddar short stay

We have stayed here before in our Motorhome, in the Summer. This time we stayed in November for a 3 x day break. As before, staff were lovely & helpful. The site was very well kept & maintained, and the toilet/shower block, though small, was very clean etc. We walked to Cheddar Gorge from the site, which didn't take long at all - firstly visiting all the lovely Xmas shops that are now parading their goods. There are some lovely eateries there. The one we frequented, and had a lovely afternoon meal, was the Riverside Inn, at the start of the walk into the Gorge area. Next day we climbed Jacobs Ladder, and walked over the top of the Gorge where there are wonderful views of the whole area, and returned via the road back into the village - all in all, about a 2.1/2hr walk. If the site could make a couple of improvements for the future, the first would be the relocating of the Motorhome Service Point. It is inconveniently placed next to the toilet block, and just in front of the exit barrier - thus, if a Motorhome is using the facility, another vehicle will not be able to get out, as there isn't enough space. I get why its there - because of the drains/water etc., for the toilets - but I would even consider forsaking the pitch next to the toilet block and have the MSP there instead - far more room potentially, and won't cause an obstruction. The second thing, though trivial, would be to consider having a kiddies small play area on site. It need not be big, just a couple apparatus for smaller kids ? We love this site ......cosy, welcoming, plenty to see & do around that area - and fantastic for an overnight stop, if you are travelling further afield, like Cornwall/Devon. We'll be back !!

Holiday

We had a fantastic time on this site. The wardens were friendly and helpful on arrival. The toilet block was the cleanest we have come across on a site other sites need to take notice. Easy walk to Tesco and Sainsbury’s which we need as we have a motorhome. Lovely walk for the dog and easy walk to the gorge itself. Definitely a site we will be returning to.
