Why stay here ...

Cheddar Club Campsite is undergoing some exciting redevelopments from early January 2022 through to April 2022. The campsite will remain open throughout but as Service Point only as the toilet and shower block will be closed for refurbishment. We're adding new serviced pitches and working on the infrastructure of the campsite. Although the campsite will remain open throughout the works, some pitch access may be restricted at certain times.

One of our many Somerset caravan sites, Cheddar Club Site is situated on the very edge of Cheddar Village and boasts magnificent views of the Mendips and surrounding countryside - an absolute walker's paradise.  Amenities in the village include a variety of shops, pubs and takeaways. Cheddar Caves and Gorge and the famous Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company are all within easy walking distance of the caravan site. With Wookey Hole Caves and Mill and England's smallest city of Wells just a short drive away, you are sure to have plenty to see and do during your stay.

For the active and sporting visitor, the Cheddar Club Site offers access to loads of fun activities in the area - karting, pony-trekking, golf, off-road driving and a great cycle path are all available just a few minutes away. For fishing and water sport enthusiasts there is Cheddar Reservoir a short distance from the caravan park, with a host of different activities throughout the year. If you would rather just relax on a nice beach, Burnham and Weston-super-Mare are both within a half hour's drive, offering all the shopping conveniences you could wish for. Visit the site in November and you will also be able to enjoy the colourful atmosphere and bright lights of the Burnham-on-Sea Carnival.

Walk to town not good.

Cheddar Caravan Club Site
The access without footpaths into town not good. Would not want to do it with children. It was bad enough with a dog. Despite only being a short distance without footpaths you take your life in your hands across a narrow bridge used by HGVs Pitches not very level. Cheddar town disappointing.

Good Break

Cheddar Caravan Club Site
We booked Cheddar as it was a fairly short haul from Cornwall and travelling on Sundays means we avoid the horrendous traffic jams. We did have to queue to get in but it was not too much bother although I suspect when it is busy it can be a problem as the access is limited and you could end up blocking those cars wishing the leave the site. Only a small number of grass pitches but we found a nice spot with plenty of space. It was however evident at times that the motorhome waste disposal point the other side of the exit barriers caused a bit of a tail back for everyone. The site however was very clean and tidy. The shower/toilet block was adequate although a bit dated and the 4 showers in the ladies and gents were very small. It was good to see that the site embraces recycling unlike so many CAMC sites. While we there in September the site was quiet and relaxing.. There is so much to do in the surrounding area. The walks from the site are great if you have a canine or an athletic runner. Market day in Wells is a must. Lots of food stalls and independent crafters and a walk around the cathedral (which is dog friendly) and the surrounding area is a must of you like that sort of thing. We did a walk around Bleadon Levels which was lovely and also went to Tickenham and walked up to Cadbury Camp where there are some fantastic views. We ate one night at the Bath Arms (dog friendly table) and had a really nice meal. The White Hart also had a nice garden that we sat out with the hound and had a couple of drinks. The Cheddar Ales tap room is an easy off road walk from the site and we went to one of their evening dos (the last of the season) when they had a band, hog roast and pizza van. The event was a popular choice with locals which probably says it all. I had read a couple scathing reviews before our visit but found the site in September to be quiet and relaxing which is what we wanted. We will definitely come back again for a short break as there is so much still for us to see and do. Oh and the Gorge is gorgeous but we only drove through it, although the athletic one of us and the dog ran up there along the top a couple of times.

Great wardens showers not so good

Cheddar Caravan Club Site
Stayed for 14 nights in September lovely quiet site with very helpful wardens. We had a Electrical breakdown and with having a disabled son who needs power to service his medical equipment it was an emergency. The warden arranged for a fitter to arrive within the hour and it was sorted. Very impressed. Roads around the site especially to Wells were a little on the tight side with only one car able to pass even without the caravan attached. The showers were far to small with little room to manoeuvre. The disabled shower even worse with a slip proof area under the shower head but smooth red tiles in the remaining area which always got wet and we’re dangerous. On leaving I realised I’d lost one of the toilet keys and was charged £3 for it. As we’d paid over £400 for our stay we weren’t impressed by this even though I accept there is a cost to replace them. Overall a lovely site we enjoyed with great wardens ( apart from the £3 charge). I see they are planing to improve the infrastructure hopefully that includes the toilet blocks

Lovely time in Cheddar.

Cheddar Caravan Club Site
We travelled up from Paignton and stopped here for a couple of nights, before making our way home to East Yorkshire. We wished we had stayed a little longer, however, it’s on our list to return. We were warmly welcomed. We got there 20 mins earlier than we expected, but the staff allowed us on site without any fuss. Thank you. The site is small and attractive, decent pitch size and not too close together. Levelling the motorhome was minimal and easy. WiFi signal was fine while we were there. The shower and toilet facilities were kept very clean, however, it is in need of improving, the shower space was small and it was difficult to keep clothes away from the spray of the water etc. Although we didn’t have any problem getting a shower, there doesn’t seem many considering the size of the site, so I imagine it would be a problem at peak times of the year. The other big problem was the water temperature. It started ok, but within a few seconds it suddenly turned cold and despite the temp gauge adjustment, it didn’t make any difference. It eventually just got bearable and it wasn’t even busy! So it can’t be the demand on the supply. We didn’t use the motorhome service point as it was outside the barrier and I didn’t want to cause obstruction to other vehicles leaving the site, not the best place for it. However, I used waste can to empty it, so not a major issue. As already mentioned, it’s in a fantastic location, a safe walk into the village, plenty of shops and eating places nearby. A little further on is Cheddar gorge itself, we had a lovely break here and would go back, despite the showers. They just need refurbishing and bringing up to date. A real credit to the staff, keeping the site and facilities tidy and clean.
