Why stay here ...

One of the main selling points of Dolaucothi Estate Caravan Park is its close proximity to the old Roman gold mines, first exploited by the Romans almost 2,000 years ago and an ideal place to learn about the history of this part of Wales. An added bonus is the setting. The caravan site is set amongst a sprawling 2,500 acre estate owned and managed by the National Trust. It is also close to the River Cothi - set in lovely Red Kite country this open glade within woodland will delight with fragrant flowers and abundant wildlife.

Close to country parks and only 16-miles from the coast, Dolaucothi Estate Caravan Park is an ideal base for a walking or touring holiday. The National Botanical Garden of Wales is just 25 minutes by car. Amenities are never far away from the caravan park as there is a local pub within walking distance and a garage and shop only 2 miles away. Located in a wildlife-rich area of Llanwrda, fishing and horse riding can be enjoyed as can a number of waymarked walks. Guided tours are also available. National Trust properties at Dinefwr and Llanerchaeron provide an alternative and are also within easy reach.

Our Honeymoon Heaven ! Paula and Paul were Brilliant Wardens very, very friendly and helpfull

We went here for 10 days on our Honeymoon. All we wanted was a beautiful site, beautiful surroundings and a superb peaceful break and base to explore Wales. That's exactly what we got ! We were pretty tired when we arrived from the drive and Paul and Paula explained everything we needed to know about the site, the area and of course the wonderful Dolaucothi Mines on the same estate. Paul was superb at guiding us around the site and advising on which spot would be best for sun/ shade etc and boy did he get it spot on ! Thanks for your patience as we were a bit out of practice with the caravan lol. We were there 10 Days and would've liked to have stayed longer. Everything you need for peace and quiet. Excellent walks around the local area. We had a lovely walk around reservoir Llyn Brianne. We travelled to Brecon a couple of times, an hour or so drive away on lovely Welsh roads. Did a nice bit of fishing nearby in some lakes.We needed another week or so to really get stuck in to the area though. A lovely minimalist site, loos and power is all you need to really enjoy where you're staying. Didn't miss or need WIFI. The video and library shed (we called it 'our Blockbusters) has a wealth of information about things to do in the area and you can rent a book out or a DVD for a tiny amount. Brilliant. Keep this site a secret and don't tell anyone so we can keep it to ourselves for next time ! Thank you very, very much for such a wonderful, clean, well kept beautiful site. Beautiful site, charming wardens (Paula and Paul}

Dolaucothi is truly beautiful and tranquil, and combined wth the friendliness of our wardens, Paul and Paula, we had a weekend to remember. We intended to tour around but never moved the campervan once parked. Sunday we walkied over the road to the National Trust owned gold mine to explore the Roman excavations on a really interesting tour hosted by Beth. A trip to the National Trust owned pub within easy walking distance for a superb Sunday lunch put paid to the planned afternoon tour of the Victorian workings which had to be delayed until Monday. Both tours are well worth doing. The cycling and quiet walks are breathtakingly. A must visit site in West Wales.

Extremely disappointed.

We’ve visited this site for many years, and always thought it good value for money. We were there over Easter Bank Holiday, and were most unhappy. We were on a new hardstanding, along with our friends, also on a new hardstanding. Both pitches have no drainage whatsoever, resulting in both awnings being constantly underwater. In fairness to the warden, he attempted to cut drainage channels at the sides of the pitches, but to no avail. The site is now badly in need of some serious TLC, with roads and surrounding areas in need of attention. I believe that this site is no longer value for Money, at £18.00 per night, £20.00 per night at Bank Holiday, with CLs in the area offering full facilities f or £3.00/£5.00 less than Dolaucothi. Our thanks to all the wardens who have been so helpful and efficient over the years we have visited, but our visits are now over.

A lovely site

We love this site as it so quiet and easy for dog owners. Great walks for the dogs straight off the site....you can even walk to the local pub for great food and beer (dog friendly.) There are many birds and a lot of people take bird feeders which are well used. The Wardens are all volunteers and we were met by Lynne and Dave. They were wonderful and very welcoming making us feel as though the campsite was just for us. I am sure everyone else felt the same. The site doesn't have facilities and although a visit to the Goldmine if good fun I am not sure there is enough to entertain children for a long holiday. However, the amazing beaches of the Gower Peninsula are only an hour away. We would highly recommend a visit.

Beautifully maintained quiet site

Stayed here for 3 nights in order to visit the gold mine, Site has no facilities which is OK as we have our own, Wardens keep this site immaculate and really care about their visitors, giving advice about the area and things to do. Considering they are volunteers this is service above what you would expect from paid employees. Cannot thank them enough for their friendly attitude we had a lovely quiet stay which I am sure is what the vast majority of people come here for.
