Given the demonization of Diesel will manufactures start to move to Petrol?  Are there any at the moment?

If there are, I hope they have better MPG than the one we hired in the USA many years ago. 8 MPG surprised. It wasn't particularly large either. That was US gals though, which are smaller, though still fairly dire.

I would’ve thought that it would be financial suicide & totally crazy for any company to invest £millions in a vehicle fuel that is viewed by Govts as a cash cow.

When I started motorhoming in 1995, new vans came with the option of petrol, diesel, or a few years later, turbo diesel engines. Petrol engines were lighter, cheaper, known for their smoothness but not for their fuel consumption which was often quoted as 22mpg compared to 27mpg for diesels. Petrol engines lacked pulling power. As diesel engines improved, the petrol option disappeared. I can remember in the 50s that petrol lorries and coaches were common. Some of the small camper vans are now offered with petrol engines.

I wouldn't rule out a return to petrol but the larger commercial van market would have to move first.

There are motorhomes still on the road from before 1995 so some of these will be petrol.

yes, but the price was less than half of what we pay.

why would they move to petrol when they are going to be a no-go after 2040 along with the diesels.

Some ten years or so ago, I filled up a hire car for some paltry cost and mentioned to the cashier that at home it would have cost fifty bucks for the same fuel. "Fifty bucks!" was the incredulous response as his jaw hit the counter. That's partly why Americans can't grasp the concept of global warming. They just have a profligate mindset when it comes to burning fossil fuels.

That was the reaction I got from an American when he was looking at a new Caddy Escalade and I told him the price of 'gas' in the UK .... £6-odd a UK gall vs $2.30 per US gall at the time

My first motorhome, a 1988 Talbot Autosleeper Talisman had a petrol engine, a 1971cc with early electronic ignition. It was very reliable but always took ages to start.A bit underpowered for its weight but better than the non turbo diesel equivalent. The gearchange was terrible. I think modern petrol engines would be very good in PVC's

A 2 Litre lean burn Petrol engine would give more than enough torque for vans upto 3500kg and would be a viable alternative to diesel giving roughly equal MPG. No need to redesign an engine there are plenty of suitable ones already being produced....unlike pure electric vans, which ,as yet ,are simply not viable or suitable at prices anyone will reasonably pay.
