How to 'National'?

Having only been members for a year, we've not been to a rally yet but considering the 2017 National is relatively near to us we're sorely tempted!

I understand that booking opens in October, but is it as straight forward a process as booking any CC site? Basically, what I'd like to know is, what do we need (or need to do) in order to get a pitch? Do we have to be members of a centre beforehand or can we just pay our money and turn up?

Sorry if this sounds silly but we've no idea if the process for attending the National is any different to attending a CC site!

No you don't have to be a centre member. Booking process is much the same as for a site except you pay up front for your stay and you are sent your tickets and information about the National and how to get there and by what route.  You used to be allocated a specifc pitch but I don't think that is the case anymore but you are allocated to a region. Its about three years since I last went so I am sure someone will correct me if I have got it wrong.

Hi peedee, many thanks for your reply - greatly appreciated! It sounds straight forward enough after all.

Can you recall whether you have to pre-book (and pay for) any activities or do you book them after your main booking once the tickets and information has arrived through the post?

We pre-paid for an entertainment night, many events were sell outs. You can also just pay for a day visit ticket but I think it's more fun staying.

We were allocated a pitch on arrival, there are EHU pitches (slightly more expensive) and non EHU pitches which you'll need to choose beforehand. You'll get a comprehensive information pack before the event, details about everything going on, food outlets and some info about a get together with your region. We enjoyed the whole thing and didn't get time to see and do everything.
