if i book a club affiliated site and have to cancel the booking

do i just loose the deposit i have paid or am i liable to pay for the full booking ?

It will depend on the site / operator, you need to check their T&C's. Although I doubt any would require paying the full amount. When we cancelled a Morris Leisure site a few years ago a few days before traveling, they retained the deposit but we were able to use it against a future booking at any of their sites in the next year. No idea if that is still the case.

Last year we had to cancel a booking at one of the club's affiliated sites.

We were able to use the deposit later in the year. If I remember correctly we could have used the deposit any time up to three months after the original date.
