Out of Adversity...

At the start of the COVID-19 crisis took a view that coming out of it would evaluate how organisations would act toward their customers and support those that didn't appear to rip us off.

In terms of our holidays thus far a commercial site we had booked with in for a break in April undertook to carry over the booking to when we wanted to take it at no uplift in fees unless in the peak school summer holidays. That was reasonable and we are taking a break in September with them.

We have a holiday booked at Xmas but are currently unsure if there will be any uplift or actually a holiday.

As the lockdown measures indicated campsites would open, we looked at options for the school summer holidays. Some sites have increased fees so won't be getting our business.

CAMC however have maintained fees, availability at two sites we wish to use, the site vouchers have been purchased to cover the fees effectively giving a discount of 20% Now with the reduction of VAT announced earlier today the annual membership is covered and we have sufficient for a couple of meals out for the family whilst away in August using the £10 off the government is giving.

When the crisis started no one knew where it would take us. Perhaps exiting will have more clarity, who knows.

Despite being extremely busy working from home, the house has been decorated top to bottom, rooms converted after eons of not having the time. Garden being remodelled. OK the caravan has a fault that means we can't use it until the fitter comes to fix it (having been ordered not to in case we went out in it to closed sites).

We have continued to pay school bus fees despite daughter being at home, memberships, insurance and other monies on the basis that it maintains businesses and people in jobs.

Doubtless mistakes have been made, but no one is perfect.

We know we will go camping again, it doesn't really matter when in the grand scheme of things, as we have found there is so much to life in a crisis.

We will enjoy our forthcoming holiday on 2 CAMC sites as they are still there for us to enjoy.

Happy camping
