Renewing club membership after short break

In August, we made the decision to sell our caravan, as we felt we were not using it enough to justify the expense of storage and insurance costs etc

Of course, literally as the van was being towed away we realised we'd made a mistake, and then set to finding a replacement. We were lucky enough not to have lost our storage, and in two weeks will be collecting our new van, costing us twice as much as we sold the old one for...

Doh!

So we've joined the club again. Although we sold the van in August, and cancelled our membership then, it ran until the end of October. We renewed on 17th November, so effectively only had a break in membership of 17 days, but have now got a new membership number plus on our cards it states "Member since 2020"!

I know that, in the grand scheme of things, this isn't really an issue, but it seems a shame that our original membership years, from October 2011, have been wiped out :(

Having said that, as a family, we've been members since 1969 but that's not recorded anywhere either!

^^ Nope!

But our lack of preparation with the old van is what led to us not using it enough and then selling it, so we're determined to be more on the ball with the new one :)

Dave

I imagine the problem is that once a member leaves the Club all personal records are Deleted User because of data protection rules. Therefore if you reapply there are no records from which to add back in your previous years?

Data protection makes sense

You'd think that maybe they could repopulate the new membership with the old details you provided, if you gave them the old membership number and the joining date, but I guess that if literally everything has been wiped, then they've only got your word that this information is correct!

As said, not an issue at all, but I was curious! :)

When we re joined, I spoke to someone at HQ, and they managed to merge some aspects of our lapsed and new membership, and it did look as though our new card would retain our almost thirty year status. It worked for all the online stuff, but the new card bit didn’t. We weren’t that bothered about the card to be honest. Three months between our Membership lapsing and rejoining, although I was still registered online.

It did resurrect a previously cancelled booking in Marazion.  We had a call from Site wondering where we were on the day we had been due to arrive (Scotland as it happened😁) It all got sorted very amiably though.

Not sure I understand your complaint!  Who sees your membership card, the site wardens and I'm pretty sure most of them couldn't care less how long you have been a member for

That's because it's not a complaint, more of an observation really!

As said in the original post, it just seems a shame that previous membership years have been "lost" for a break of around a couple of weeks. It doesn't matter at all! :)
