CAMC have put up the cost of wifi on its sites by 10% on the annual charge to £27.50. Have I missed something as there doesn’t appear to be anything in the way of explanation on the website or magazine?. Are they hoping that no-one will notice?

I only ever used the CCC wifi once or twice years back.

Never used CCC wifi. The CC wifi I have and find that, for us it works fine generally. For our usage as we buy just the one annual voucher it works out at 40p a day for the number of CC sites that we use.

Not sure why you would want to include it into site fees when you say you prefer to use your sim cards as site wifi is rubbish?

Not sure I would ever pay the one day rate other than in a dire emergency surprised

What I find strange is that all the major providers of internet connections are dropping their prices as they compete for business and presumably, the cost of the hardware is falling as well - so why does this Club find it necessary to increase its prices at all?

I get a massive data boost from EE from having both our phones and broadband with them, so I will continue to tether all of our devices to my phone when I require an internet connection.

Some of us have no need for a smartphone though. We have little need for a mobile phone in truth for much of the time although we both carry a small clam type mobile. We are at home for 8 months of the year and during that time the phones are rarely used as we prefer to use one of our 5 home phones much of the time with their included calls.

For us paying 8p per minute is far cheaper than having a £5 monthly contract each. The only time OH is likely to use her mobile to make a call is when she wants to contact me if we are out in a town area doing our own thing and wish to meet for coffee and do some together things. I doubt that she spends more than £1 a year but let's say £2 at most!

My phone receives far more incoming calls than I ever make outgoing. Last year during holidays I made a 10 minute call to eldest daughter as she was having problems, probably a 3 min call to my garage, a 2 minute call to a local dentist, a few minutes to greenflag, a handful of 'where are you calls' and one 'I am stuck on the motorway' call. Including calls less than £5 a year.

So our mobile phone charges no more than £10 a year. We paid £25 for CC site wifi, about £25 for commercial wifi and £50 for 24gb of EE data sim for our mifi.

I think we have only ever used CC wi-fi once, and that was a long long time ago. We have a big enough 4G allowance already, which meets our internet needs and can be used all year round anywhere in the UK ( and EU ) that has a signal. It would not surprise me as time goes by, fewer and fewer people choose to pay for site wi-fi as the number of smart phones on sites increases. If the club continue to charge for it, the annual charge is therefore bound to increase in price year on year. An annual pass of course, which can only be used on club sites, is less appealing for those who don't stay on club sites for enough nights to justify the charge.

You obviously haven't met my wife, then.  I keep telling her that she will have to have her phone surgically removed from her ear before long!smile

I didn't say i would want to include it into site fees. I have no need for wifi on site and it wouldn't bother me if none was provided thereby saving the club money.

I have no need for several things on site. However, I would not want to see them done away with. Plus of couse those using it are paying an extra fee for the privelidge, which must go some way towards funding it.

I think JVB probably meant 40p not 4p smile

How does that sum work JVB?

I pay £11.00 per month for 30gb of 4g data and unlimited calls and texts, including tethering in many other countries.

DD, I think there must be a mistake in this calculation somewhere, I thought it wasn't right when I read it.

I assume JVB means £27.50 for a 1 year subscription to CAMC's WiFi.  He then goes on to say it works out at 4p a day, calculated for the amount of days he spends on CAMC sites.

BUT, AFAIK there are only 365 days in any one year, 4p per day charge works out at £14.60 per year, not £27.50 surprised

Ina

I was also puzzled by JVB's calculation. I know he spends a lot of days in any one year on Club sites but I couldn't work it out as he has done. Fair enough for someone in his position the annual fee is very good value, even at the increased cost. Where it is not such good value is when you need it for short term use like the odd day or odd days within a week.
