Damp has returned

we have a swiftbasecamp that was recalled by swift last year because a batch of them were suffering from damp 

off it went to the factory for 6 weeks to be repaired  but 12 months later the damp is back ...the van is less than 3 years old and it seems like every time we take it away we have to take it back to the dealer to have it fixed be it the cooker not working or the latest last week the roof was leaking 

any ideas what we should do next ...confidence in swift is nil ...I mean what are they going to do this time that they never did the last

Sorry to hear your problem. Have you spoken to your dealer? The damp should be sorted under warranty and maybe the dealer may have technicians who can crack the problem, no pun intended.  We had a Bailey caravan for 5 years over 10 years ago and that averaged a visit to the dealer for repair every few weeks.  Cost us little but so distressing. Previous Bailey had been fine. Best of luck.

We had similar problems with a Bailey caravan with severe damp problems from new. Eventually we made the sensible decision to trade it in after which the new owner had further major damp problems (long story).  I’m afraid that if you have a bad one my advice is to get rid of it. If you sell it privately you may feel ethically obliged to reveal the service history but a dealer has no such qualms when selling on so trade-in is best.

Have to say I agree with others, we suffered damp 3 times in 6 years with our Bailey MH, always repaired under warranty but at the 6 year point we decided to get rid.

If they hadn't managed to fix it properly by then it was a good bet they never would, so cut our losses and exchanged it for another. 

Its upsetting to have the problem in the first place but after awhile you loose faith in the product and any pleasure you had out of your purchase soon fades into total disappointment. 

My advice would be to trade it in  and get something else.

Know that feeling.  Had damp on  Bailey Unicorn where the handles leaked, and the water ingress rotted the floor.  Once repaired it went - ever since then we have had Hymer caravans.  No leaks.  Interesting that Bailey tried to copy the Hymer system - but failed miserably.  I'm sold on Hymer now - can't ever see me moving away!

I hear what you say about Hymer. Hymer bought out Elddis in 2017 but the Elddis customer care is still awful even in 2021- why? Do they want to pull down the Hymer reputation? I have an Elddis van with repeated damp issues (from inherent defect) and Erwin/Hymer simply seem to want to make your life hell, have you going round in circles and attempt to wash their hands of  the whole issue! Actually it is disgraceful behaviour - why isn't the C&M C fighting our corner?

You've hit the nail on the head regarding Hymer customer service. Whilst the product they produce is generally better than others, but not perfect, there customer service is well below what you would expect.

I'm considering a change of Eriba [Hymer] in the next  couple of years and as orders can now take over 12 months I've started my research. Only 2 of the models I'm interested in have been sold in UK over the last 24 months so the only way to find out what specification and extras actually was to contact them directly. After 2 months I finally have some questions answered, but not enough to place an order. It would appear they can sell all they produce so why bother helping a potential owner.
