Have been advised to get winter fridge vent covers, will be using motorhome in sub 6 degrees.

Does anyone use these, are they necessary? They seem to be £30-40 each and we need 2. The other issue is that our van is French built, so the vents are bigger than standard size.

There are lots of companies selling them. A Google search for the model of fridge should bring up some results.  Your motorhome manufacturer should be able to confirm which vents you need if its not giving in the literature you have with the van.

>Leisure|Shop Direct< are usually pretty good for that type of thing. First check who supplied your vents, they may not be the same make as your fridge, mine aren't, Thetford fridge, Dometic vents.

For the last 12 years we have used our caravan for 10 and 15 night stays over the Christmas period in UK. Lowest temperature was -14c overnight and sub zero through the day. We never had any problem with keeping the fridge and freezer compartment down to temperature.

We generally put caravan fridge on the day before departure and this is the only time that we encountered a problem with the fridge not cooling during that very cold period. It was not the outside air temperature that caused the problem but the inside caravan temperature. I put the caravan heating on to a normal room temp and the fridge then operated fine.
