Hi,  I am with RAC at the moment and have just got the renewal, and they have put up it up by £30.85.  It will be a phone call to RAC to see if they will being the price down, if not then it will be Green Flag.  Has anybody had any experience with either Green Flag or RAC.  Thanks

Not the RAC but just renewed with AA, been members for 44 years after a very polite phone call they reduced our premium by £60 still expensive in my book but after 44 years what the heck!!!

I have used Mayday for many years and have been well pleased. Used RAC for a couple of years when not caravanning. But no experience in the last 15 years of anything but Geen Flag/Mayday.

GreenFlag Recovery Plus for UK cost me £60 per year. To include overseas cover it was £80 a year using  their Europlus cover for UK and Europe combined. Bargain!

Experience in what way?

We had Arrival for many years and it did what it said on the tin. They carried us home from Scotland on one occasion without a hitch. Our smaller van now means ordinary RAC cover, rather than Arrival, suffices. Yes, it has got more expensive and they're no longer amenable to haggling.

I understand that RAC use their own team of call out responders whereas Green Flag/Mayday contract it out to garages.

Depends whereabouts in the country you are TW. Around e (Wales and Chester area) and many other areas there has been a move over the last 6 years or thereabouts to use franchised liveried mechanics rather than local garages. About that time I had left the caravan on site at Southport and gone home for the day. On the way back to site there was a problem with brake judder on the eve of boxing day. I phoned Mayday as it was difficult for me to inspect. Liveried van turned up and found a chip out of the brake disk. It turned out that he had previously worked for a local garage before starting as a Greenflag franchisee. He told me that a lot of garages were unhappy that they were no longer being used directly and there was a move afoot i many areas for the same.

Good news for me that he phoned the garage where he had worked and got me in for 1st thing on the day after Boxing day.

Only had occasion to use Green Flag once... van was stuck in a tight position parked at home after immobiliser failed. First guy turned up and diagnosed probable fault, then turned up with the correct recovery vehicle about an hour later and winched the van out and away. No problem.

No idea what RAC charge but just paid £137 to renew our Mayday. (£3 more than last year) That's for Premium UK cover, for any vehicle, so covers our MH and two cars for both myself and OH, all at the same level of cover. Plus of course any other vehicle we happen to be traveling in. I'm happy enough with that. For abroad I like the level of cover afforded by red Pennant and use that for vehicle / medical.

I have used them a couple of times for car only problems and they have always come quickly and sorted the issue.

We have Green flag/Mayday, we've only had to call them out a few times so far touch wood for our daughter's (rather aged passed down) car that was on the policy while she lived with us.

They were there within an hour and sorted things out.

We have RAC Arrival via the Camping Club. Its due soon but last years price was £125.. We have been members for 10 years but not used them in anger... yet.. The bit I like about arrival is the double recovery part so if you are off site and need recovering they take you to the site to collect your things from the pitch before they take you home.
