Insurance.......interesting?

We renewed the insurance on our Jeep last week. Got a good renewal quote, but as you should, decided to phone up and see if we could get any better. We had a couple of changes to give them, namely my changing from housewife to retired, but also the fact that we had now got a tow ball on new Jeep. After a discussion, we got a bit off for change of my status, but they gave us another £50 off (yes, OFF)😁 because we had a tow ball fitted. Apparently it’s because it lessens the possible damage to our car if we are in a rear end shunt!😱 We had never come across this before, and rather happy to have it work in our favour. Not sure on removable/retractable tow balls though.......

Statistically towing a caravan is far safer so that might be a reason? But they gave you the discount just for having a tow ball fitted so who knows

I just hope it catches on.

Which published statistics did you review and what was the source?

government figures, accident rates for towing is 0.08%, sometimes 0.07%.

And the big test is that if it wasn't insurance companies would charge more if you tow. In all my dealing with insurance companies some said they would note it while others weren't interested in knowing.

LV TG, we find them very competitive. The renewal quotes are never in the stupid zone, but we still do the haggle bit and usually get something off every time. We have never made a claim while using them, but have no reason to think they would be any worse than most firms to deal with. We do tend to take such comments with a touch of “yeah, ok, whatever you say” but this one did surprise us. You normally expect them to up the premium rather than lower it, so we were very pleased.😁

Thanks for that, so it is a positive. When we asked, we were told that the damage to our vehicle was likely to be less with a huge lump of metal sort of protecting our rear end. Suppose it depends on lots of factors though. We find occasionally hanging dangling poo bag keeps tail gaiters back a bit as well🤣🤣

Mmm, will try this at renewal. OH is the worlds worst at haggling, me I love it, he will not ask for a discount despite the fact that he carries a couple of discount cards in his wallet

Recently we had to have a new tyre fitted due to a bulge in the sidewall, at payment time he was just about to pay up, when I asked if they gave discounts to C&MC or the C&CC, no was the reply, how about ex forces then says I. No problem we'll give you 10%

Thanks for the tip TDA.

I thought it was only me that did the poo bag hanging thing. We were once on a CL site in Devon that insisted that poo bags were disposed of off site, on the last day I traveled all the way home with one swinging from my towball.
