Some friends of our's enjoy camping with there two young children,  they have a new air pole tent and all the correct equipment.   So they joined the Caravan and Motorhome Club this week.  On the clubs website it stated that if you join you get the first night free on any club site,  so they joined and phoned the clubs head office to claim the first free nights deal,   only to be told that it's only for caravans and motorhomes . I fail to see the difference if they have paid the £54 membership and site fees on a tent pitch.   They have now cancelled the membership the day after and will go some were else.   What a great way to get new members.

I think they should ask for their money back.

To be honest, this club does not have enough sites which accept tents to make it a viable option for tent campers. It’s a shame but that’s the way it is at present and C&CC is surely the way to go.

Did they join on line, as I understand tent campers cannot be members of this club?surprised

I suppose anyone can pay the joining fee and be a member. Not sure if it says anywhere you have to own a caravan MH or trailer tent. However, there is no reduction for tents, over what would be paid by non members. So unless there is some overriding reason for being a member, there is little point.

Using my past experience, you had to be the owner of a caravan, motor caravan or a trailer tent to become a member.  Even then, the unit had to meet certain specifications, I remember having to submit evidence of this when we had a home built camper van. Good that the club reimbursed the monies in this instance. Incidentally, when we had a trailer tent it was allowed on a non awning pitch but only if the fire breaks were maintained.๐Ÿ‘

I guess with times a changing what with alternative accommodation now becoming more available on sites and legislative restrictions on cars folk will be able to join even without owning any of the above units. We live in interesting times, seems sensible to me to be forward thinking!

Good post CGB๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป. It’s grossly unfair, however I’d expect the C&MC to either grant them the night or reimburse them. Anything short of that would be grossly unfair & well below the standards expected of a major player in the leisure industry๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป. In the event of being ignored I’d suggest to your friends they alert others to the injustice using social media. I doubt it’ll come to that mind.

Trailer Tents are as accepted as equally as Caravans and Motorhomes but not tents, has always been thus. When I started off Frame Tenting back in the early 70's I joined the C&CC and stayed for many years, always thought the CC thought they were for 'Posh people'.

Some still do......evidently. Not my experience though. Ha Ha.   Tell them to get a refund and join the C&CC.

You must be a youngster. When we first joined you had to be proposed by an existing member. Now there’s posh!
