CL owners

We love CLs!  We use them a lot and we enjoy the peace and quiet that they have to offer.  Recently we’ve noticed a trend for people to leave reviews complaining about the owners.  For example, someone put that they were disappointed as there wasn’t a reception!  Someone else said that after a ten hour drive they arrived tired and hungry and no one was there to greet them.  People complain that the owners aren’t around and aren’t friendly.  For goodness sake, what do some folk expect?  The owners aren’t there to become instant best friends with everyone who turns up!  Provided a site is clean and tidy and someone is available should there be a problem, surely that’s enough!

Sure, some CL owners have other things to do and won't always be on hand for new arrivals. But in those circumstances a simple information board and a mobile contact number is something which some site owners manage to provide.

We turn up and if there is no instruction of where to pitch we use common sense and pitch in an available area and then get on with our holiday.  At some time over our stay we will meet the owners or not as the case may be.  That doesn't spoil our enjoyment of their site

+1, I’m not a fan of ‘hoverers’, I like the tranquility that is offered, that flies out of the window with an over indulgent host. Luckily I’m my experience they have been too busy for that๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป. I will seek em out before leaving time-perfect๐Ÿ˜Š

They all vary, some say call in before setting up others are quite different. Just enjoy it. smile

We've never had anything to complain about as far as CL owners are concerned. Maybe we've been lucky, but on the only two (I think) occasions when the owners haven't been there to greet us there have been clear indications as to where we should pitch.

Maybe it's a sign of recent converts to CLs from main sites being used to the meet & greet reception on arrival at such sites. If they persevere, they'll get used to it! wink

Agree. It’s another world using CLs. Just enjoy the generosity and ambience. ๐Ÿ˜

As a CL owner and one that does not live on the site and also works around the area, it is a job to meet & greet every member. I normally explain in the email booking confirmation any information required and if not going to be able to meet and greet them I leave information on site in the information shelter. They can help themselves on arrival. I normally then collect the payment after returning from work and check every thing is OK. So far not had any issues with this, they can also contact me by text or phone any time should they have a problem or need to know something, as I live in the nearby village

I think our Clubs great CL network is something to be proud of, it has been a mainstay of the caravan world for as long as caravans have been around!
Certificated Locations (CLs) are hidden gems and the club boasts it has over 2200 small five-van sites that are exclusively for its members. The great thing is these sites are very diverse from mini style clubsites to Off-Grid sites.
The problem is the numbers keep declining and I guess the club website site will have to amend the boast of over 2200 soon as currently 2208!
The answer to not losing CLs has to be “Use it or lose it” the club need to promote them more!

We arrived on one site just in front of another member. The owner wan't around but there was a notice board there stating which pitch had been allocated. No problems. the other member started to complain that they wanted someone at "reception" to advise them on where everything was etc. Yes, it was their first visit to a CL.

We told them where to go.innocent (You know, where the grey water went, where the water points were etc.but to be honest it wasn't rocket science).

Like Rocky said, we don't like "Hoverers" (nice word Rocky) but like a word if applicable, ok with us if not.
