Ferry across Adriatic with a caravan

Have been from Ancona to Greece a couple of times with a caravan. Had a bad experience with aferry who didn't give the best fare available and weren't interested when I complained. Much better to deal with the ferry company direct.

The ferries to Greece (and most of the Adriatic in my experience) aren't ro-ro and there will be the need to either reverse on or, more likely, turn round when you are on board. The ferry staff are always on hand to help but you need to be prepared. On the ferry to Greece you are usually put on the upper car deck so there is a steep ramp to drive up. Looks daunting but is OK. Lorries and coaches go up so there is plenty of room for a car and caravan. Make sure that the ramp is completely clear before you drive onto it unless you want to do a hill start!

It would seem that this is not a popular route to or from Croatia, maybe we will have to have a re-think.

Via Austria and on to Trieste seems to be the most viable alternative.  Has anyone any alternatives?

One alternative might be to fly out there with RyanAir - there are some September dates where a direct flight from Stansted to Croatia (admittedly one way) can be had for £20 - then rent a car and try out Airbnb. £20 is unbelievably cheap ! 

Or drive there with a solo car - and hire a mobile home or a 'rent a tent' from Roan Holidays who do some VERY cheap deals at the beginning and end of the season.  Unfortunately their prices haven't been announced yet for 2020 - but keep an eye out for some real bargains (like two weeks for under £100).  We booked with them one year, but for family reasons were unable to go - so cancelled the holiday.
