As members of our online community we wanted to invite you to be one of the first to try our new booking system for Overseas Travel.

It’s been designed to make the booking experience simpler, easier and altogether better for our members. You can use it today to plan and book your overseas holidays between the dates of 1 January to 31 December 2020. We’ll let you know as soon as more dates have been released for you to book.

What’s new

We’ve created an easy to use booking system – whether you’re on your laptop, desktop, tablet or mobile phone so you can:

  • Book multiple sites in one booking
  • Lowest prices are displayed
  • Easy search using the new interactive map
  • Review sites in a quick view panel
  • Compare up to 3 different sites at once
  • View your crossing by price and departure
  • Filter results by facilities

It has often been pointed out that taking four site night vouchers can sometimes actually reduce the price of some ferry crossings with Brittany Ferries - yet it has always seemed tedious to have to get two separate prices, first with and then without those vouchers. Perhaps there was a short cut to do that which I never found.

But even now I still canot instinctively see that the new Booking system immediately gives me those two prices - with and without site night vouchers - side by side. Did I not look at it carefully enough? Am I a slow learner?

I noticed that it wasn't able to search for a "nearest to chosen" date for a ferry crossing so if no ferry going to say Santander fro Portsmouth on a Tuesday it wouldn't default to a Monday or Wednesday.

I think I would still prefer to speak to the excellent Overseas staff on the phone who will automatically search for this.

Like EuroT there doesn't seem to be the facility to include Cheques by quantity rather than picking sites.

I'm still trying, but finding another problem.

If I use Brittany Ferries own site I choose a route (in my case because of where I live it is Plymouth/ Roscoff) and I put in a date. That website gives me the price for that day for that route -  and if I scroll forward or backward it gives me other prices for other days over the whole season.  It does the same for a range of return dates. I pick the ones I want and add them together.

The new Club booking system only seems to give the price for the one single day I have chosen. I can't seem to see the price for the next day or the previous day to see whether they are cheaper or dearer. I can't see separate outward and inward prices separately to make my selection.

What the Club does give me is a comparative price for ferries from places like Newhaven.  But I am not a bit interested in driving from Cornwall to Newhaven. I would just like a range of prices with and without site vouchers for a range of days  from Plymouth.

Am I still doing it wrong?

Hi Rowena, I tried out the system on my laptop but could not see how to add vouchers so emailed the travel dept and got this reply;

You are able to book ferries sites and overseas site vouchers from today, these are called a combined deal and the new system will bring up the best deal for you.

So, how do you get a combined deal-I have tried several ways, and had different end results??

Do you need to add vouchers and, if so, how?

Do you need to select a combined deal and, if so, how?

I have just been trying in my iPad and it’s no clearer.

Thanks.

Hi Eurotraveller

Please be aware that as part of our contract with the Ferry operators we are not permitted to show the price of the Combined deal Ferry separately to the sites/Site night vouchers.

Thanks

Tracy

All sites are not uploaded onto the system yet, phoned to make a booking and suggested it may take a few days and should keep checking. Managed to book French site but non in Spain as yet.

Hi AllanandJean,

As you can imagine the new software is bedding in and will be a work in progress over the next week or so. Currently you would need to search for the Overseas Site night vouchers in the sites section. If you select Calais as the location and the dates you wish to travel, search then select “search for Nearby Campsites” then at the top of the list will be the Overseas site night vouchers. It will automatically be set for 4 vouchers, which you can change if you wish to purchase more. Add them to your basket then go on to select your Ferry.

Thanks

Tracy

Tracy, your IT team have gone into labour and given birth to a donkey.

I ask your booking engine for a quote fromPortsmouth to Caen on a date when I know there are three sailings on that route. Your new system shows me a price for one of those three sailings but not the other two. Other people might not even know there are two other sailings.

Instead your new system shows me additional quotes for sailings to all sorts of other ports which I never asked for. I don't want to go to Dieppe. I simply want to compare the three sailings to Caen on that day - and also to see whether the prices for nearby days on that route would be different.

Was this system trialled with a panel of members before going live?

Hi David2115,

I have been advised we have over 150 campsites already available to book and we are phasing the release of more campsites over the next few days.

Thanks

Tracy
