Just spoke with red pennant and they have stated that their underwriters will not cover anything related to the corona virus. The nice chap on the phone stated they are in negotiation with them to have that turned round so that policy holders can be reassured. We will see

The thrust of this thread is exactly that which I raised on 12 March and had it IMMEDIATLEY closed by a Mod. However...

Can the Club please clarify what RP will do with EXISTING POLICIES taken out prior to the crisis and state if RP will honour cancellations and pay back costs due to the fact I cannot travel to France due to Government (here and in France) action?

I agree but the fact is that if asking for yourself it depends entirely on your circumstance. The post on here is unlikely to be seen by CMC

I am asking for everyone, not just me!

Also, we all know (or should know) that these posts are seen by the Mods (who are in contact with the Club) and also by Rowena.

If you think that my post is unlikely to be seen then perhaps you should "report" my post so that it automatically comes to the attention of the CM and others at EG.

I made a claim under our Nationwide Travel Insurance after my heart attack on 22nd January this year. The Claims Department response, after the inevitable long hold, taking me through security 3 times and popping me back in the general queue 3 times, was 'We won't do anything until we have contacted your GP and received confirmation that your heart attack was not caused by any undeclared condition or medical episode. Please authorise your GP to provide the necessary medical information ...'

If this approach is being applied to Coronavirus Claims, then the fuzziness around the definitions of what comprises a High Risk category person and the inclusion of so many underlying conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, respiratory problems, embolisms etc [almost anything more serious than an ingrowing toenail ...] would seem to offer the Insurance Industry enormous wriggle room to dismiss Coronavirus Claims, irrespective of when the individual policies were issued.

It might need legal action to test the Insurance Industry's response to Coronavirus Claims, possibly via a Class Action to clarify matters, but I will not be a party. I've had quite enough of Travel Insurance companies for just now ['we hope to process your claim at the end of this week, Mr March'. As they said last week, and the week before that ...].

Steve
