We booked a 2 week stay at Camping le Mas de Reilhe  near Nimes .  We paid the deposit  and then had to cancel .  We  had cancellation insurance with Camping Couvert  . This is the reply we received from them ;

We acknowledge receipt of your request for compensation (file SI-2011331) concerning your reservation made with MAS DE REILHE as part of insurance Campez-Couvert.

We fully understand your decision to cancel your stay given the current context of the Coronavirus epidemic.

However, we confirm that the insurance contract explicitly excludes epidemics as a cause of guaranteed cancellation.

As it stands, we regret that we are unable to give a favorable answer to your request for compensation under the cancellation insurance contract and we are classifying your file.

We suggest you to get in touch with your holiday provider, who will do everything possible to find you a solution adapted to your problem.

We remain at your disposal and ask you to believe, Madam, Sir, in the expression of our best regards.

As we have cancelled the booking  am i right to assume that the campsite cannot take the final payment . ??

We find this response from the insuranc company totally unacceptable and unfair in the current situation .

We paid a deposit of  198 Euros to the site and 15 euros for the cancellation insurance

Don't remember seeing anything in the small print about epidemics.

That is why I hesitated to comment. Obviously €198 is a lot of money and worth following up. Have you been in contact with the campsite? Would they be willing to move the booking to another time?

Dave Roberts, have you asked the campsite if they will hold your deposit for a 2021 visit ?

You do not say when the stay was for, I assume it is an upcoming one so the FCO advice not to travel will maybe cover you.  If is is for the near future can you move to later in the year perhaps or even next year?

Had a nice email yesterday from a campsite in France where i booked just a one night stay and paid  €20 to say that they would keep this as a credit for 18 months from the date they are allowed to re-open, only €20, which i was prepared to forfeit, and never asked for, but just shows there is some good in this world
