We booked a 2 week stay at Camping le Mas de Reilhe  near Nimes .  We paid the deposit  and then had to cancel .  We  had cancellation insurance with Camping Couvert  . This is the reply we received from them ;

We acknowledge receipt of your request for compensation (file SI-2011331) concerning your reservation made with MAS DE REILHE as part of insurance Campez-Couvert.

We fully understand your decision to cancel your stay given the current context of the Coronavirus epidemic.

However, we confirm that the insurance contract explicitly excludes epidemics as a cause of guaranteed cancellation.

As it stands, we regret that we are unable to give a favorable answer to your request for compensation under the cancellation insurance contract and we are classifying your file.

We suggest you to get in touch with your holiday provider, who will do everything possible to find you a solution adapted to your problem.

We remain at your disposal and ask you to believe, Madam, Sir, in the expression of our best regards.

As we have cancelled the booking  am i right to assume that the campsite cannot take the final payment . ??

We find this response from the insuranc company totally unacceptable and unfair in the current situation .

The insurers response is quite clear, assuming the wording to which he refers is actually in the policy, you are not insured. €198 is a reasonable amount but in the context of your holiday budget a small amount. Bite the bullet, forget it, move on, or as my father would have said "put it down to experience"

There is going to be a lot of "wriggling" by insurance companies over the foreseeable future.

We have a holiday in Greece booked for late September and have insured with Staysure  (we've used them for our last few holidays because they are excellent in allowing for pre existing medical conditions.)

On 12 March we had a statement from the CEO to say that existing customers would be allowed to add "travel disruption" cover to their policies with no administration charge if done on line. So I attempted to do this only to recieve a reply saying that on the 13 March the underwriters had told them they could no longer accept this.

We don't have to pay our balance until July when things may be clearer so we will hold on and hope that the company we're travelling with either cancel the holiday themselves or offer a deferment.

None of that is a criticism of the insurance company, just a statement of fact and an indication of what uncertain times we are living in.
