A number of specific questions have been raised about what might happen after 29 March 2019 when the UK leaves the European Union (EU). We've identified some information and advice for people travelling abroad with caravans and motorhomes in the hope that it will help you find out what impact Brexit may have on your holiday plans. You can find this here: Travelling after Brexit

We will also try and keep you updated with relevant information on this discussion and please feel free to share information and advice with each other. We do ask that no conversations about politics devhttps://www.caravanclub.co.uk/overseas-holidays/useful-information/travelling-after-brexit/elop - as you know this can often get heated! As such any political comments will be removed but we would really appreciate any constructive comments and information shared.

Latest Update: January 2021

I'd just like to recommend that everyone keeps an eye out for .gov.uk information about Brexit.  Recent advice about International Driving Permits has now been withdrawn, so it's really important to keep checking that the advice you are acting on is still current!

You guys are spoiled for choice. In the whole of Cornwall there is only one post office offering IDPs - Penzance - and not terribly centrally located !

I live in Mevagissey and according to Post Office Website there are 5 issuing post offices within 15 mile radius of my home and a further 5 if you include Falmouth and Newquay. Presumably there are others if you live in West or East Cornwall?

I live a bit east of you, SSB, and I picked up a lot as well.

I imagine this is the official Government Website dealing with all things Post Brexit for travellers to the EU?

On the point of IDP's, having had a read of the above website it almost suggests that obtaining and IDP is a bit belt and braces as no one really knows how different EU countries will react and it is possible that there will be different requirements for different countries. Why there should be need for additional paperwork is beyond me as every police force in Europe is familiar with the photocard licence we currently have and understands the information held on it as it is the same as used by their fellow countrymen! I am not sure what and IDP gives that the current licence does not?

The list provided by the Post Office has now been updated, I presume after withdrawal of the earlier Government advice (which has now changed).  IDPs are now available at our local post office - previously our nearest was in Leeds which is thirteen miles away - fortunately just a few metres from a bus stop as parking in Leeds is expensive and difficult.

My insurance certificate from SAGA has a section entitled

International Motor Card and in several languages states that it takes the place of a Green Card. As its not green and could have been printed by anyone I am wondering if it will be suffice.

well i would ask the question, on day one how many of the officials who you would expect to check for green card, idp etc would know what they were looking at if you showqed it to them, after all we have been touring the EU for many years without all these documents, and all the officials today have probably never seen them or know what to ask for. EG. When i enquired with BF Poole re taking my dog out, they knew nothing and referred me to head office. My motto is get what the Gov say you will require as a minimum on day one and just go, i am sure nobody is going to get thrown in jail provided you have made reasonable provision.
