Morn Hill Refurbishment

We went to a wedding yesterday in Farnham which is on the A31. On the way back this morning I stopped off at Morn Hill to see how things were proceeding. I could only see the first section and it looks as if some of the buildings are almost complete and the hardstanding pitches are in place. Below are a couple of pictures taken from the entrance. Couldn't see what was happening on the upper section. We have booked a stay in September so hope its finished by then!

Thanks David for the photos looks like it is moving along well and hope it is finished on time.

We have a friend who used to use it when visiting friends but no longer in the area now so may not use it as the prices will be much higher. A long time since we have stayed there so may consider it for the future.

It will be interesting to see the finished site. We have used it a bit in the past to visit relatives in and around Southampton. My understanding (according to a warden I spoke to some years ago) was that the Club owned one section of the site and Winchester City Council the other and it seems to have taken years and years to resolve the issue. I was concerned the whole site would close but well done the Club for sorting it out. What I couldn't see was what was happening at the upper section which I assume is also being upgraded? I will report back if our visit goes ahead as planned. Unfortunately the pub that was on the corner is no longer a pub. Not really sure what it is now, possibly a B&B?

Since my photos were taken I have discovered a bit more about the refurbishment from a comment on Facebook and the Planning Application. It seems that the upper section will remain  configured as it is now with grass pitches but there will be a badly needed new toilet block. The lower section (nearer the old pub) will be all hardstandings and everything will be new. This section will apparently be open all years but the upper section will be seasonal. All this subject to confirmation by the Club.

Club's web page says it will open on the 1st September. I was looking for a night stop but at £32.I think I will be giving it a miss. That's a bit expensive for just a one nighter.unless desperate.

Our stay is a bit later in September and it's a tiny bit cheaper at £31. For us it's the convenience as we have family locally and I understand we can go into Winchester on the bus from near the site. I suppose just for a one night stopover it's not so crucial where you stay? I must admit I have not explored the options because I wanted to stay so I could see how different it is from the original site.

What is a Premium pitch ?  They are listed at £4 more than even a serviced pitch and nearly £9 more than a standard pitch. Looking at the site plans there are just two at Morn Hill and four at Clumber Park.

I cannot find any information in the site description unless i'm not looking close enough.

Are they simply extra large?

Have a look here (I admit not easy to find): https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/uk-holidays/useful-information/types-of-pitch/

Premium pitches
These larger (than standard) pitches provide individual facilities, including all-weather pitching surface, illuminated electrical hook up bollard, facilities for drinking water, an individual ground-level connection to accept grey water disposal, a hedge between each pitch for privacy, a picnic bench and BBQ station for disposable BBQs. There is an additional charge for this pitch type. Water hoses should be the same length as the electrical hook up cable (25m)

There's also a super pitch

These pitches offer individual facilities: with space for an awning, all-weather pitching surface, illuminated electrical hook-up bollard (including booster TV aerial outlet), facilities for drinking water, grey water and chemical disposal, ground-level inlet to accept foul water (grey water or sewage) and privacy hedge between each pitch. There is an additional charge for this pitch type

Exactly David, you would at least expect the ferry pitches to be more competively priced for one nighters. I too have family not far from the site and I might use it in the off season. On previous visits I have used the Body Farm CL. I will probably try one of the other CLs in the area for the one nighter and a change.

It looks like the web pages on re-developments and the site were updated late yesterday and the site is now going to open on 15th August.
