Site Recommendations

Okay, here is our 3rd post, hopefully this will have more luck.  Our others from 18th & 22nd August are still sitting as pending despite a telephone call, that suggested I wait a bit longer, and an email as also suggested which hasn't been answered.  I appreciate Covid-19 restrictions but other posts seem to have been approved/progressed.

Having picked up our new Swift Eccles 560 last Saturday and being newbies we are heading to North Ledaig for our first adventure this week and then Whitley Bay and Windermere in October.  We are now looking at a major trip for next year in late May/June and heading to Devon & Cornwall from Lanarkshire.

We are looking for any guidance or advice as to possible sites, I have pencilled in some possible sites but was hopefully looking to see if anyone had any comments as to their suitability or for other options.  It will just be the two of us and our two Cocker Spaniels.

My plan so far is Home to Kendal, then Tewksbury Abbey. then Moor View AO, then Bishops Lydeard (to visit a friend), then Clover Fields (Buxton), Firtree AO (Harrogate) and finally The Crown at Mickleton before home.  We are heading off on 30th May and home on 18th June.

Any comments as to whether I have chosen well or if there is a better option to any of the above I would be very grateful for your experience and advice.

Firstly, I hope you enjoy the caravanning lifestyle.

I don't think that you should be concerned about other people's recommendations or comments about suitability or whether you have chosen well. What do "chosen well "  and "a better option" mean?

If you are happy with the route and itinerary you have planned that is all that matters. It is your holiday, your choice and you do not need to ask or consider what other people may do. We don't know your interests and what you plan to do at these stops. Other people are likely to have their own interests and requirements. What suits them may not suit you.

There is a possibility that you could receive so many suggestions that you are left bewildered. Never mind what other people do. Do what you wish to do and enjoy doing it.

Best wishes.

I agree with what dunelm has posted. A tour design is an extremely personal thing with each leg of the journey and camp site needing to satisfy all sorts of preferences for you and the 3 other mortals travelling with you. The freedom we enjoy as caravanners is exactly what enables us to create our unique holidays. We sometimes plan our tours and sometimes go on spec' or a bit of each.

Hi, B&T, I see you've already fallen foul of the CT system.

My only comment on those sites is that you will find the lanes far from ideal for towing around Moor View. It’s certainly doable but catches many folk unawares. Moor View is very close to the club's Modbury site.

You're not venturing as far as Cornwall, then? You'll miss the best bit😋

As others have said your tour, your choice. However..... it looks like a lot of stops (7 in 19 days) which doesn't leave a lot of time for sightseeing etc. The distances between seem short too and i think you might find the fun if setting up/packing up every 2/3 days soon wears thin. Don't forget there are sites outside the club network, often better, sometimes cheaper. Maybe keep it simple, you have years to visit the UK and beyond! However enjoy, your caravan is a good choice too and if not already sign up to Swifttalk forum.

Hi B&T,

The date you are planning on leaving home is the May BH weekend, the busiest week of the year for campsites in England and the M5.   I live in Taunton and if I am not abroad in Spain or Italy, I stay at home.
You really need to get your sites booked ASAP, if there are any left.

Are you staying with your friend in Bishops Lydeard?    There are only a couple of sites in, or close to Taunton/BL and one is tiny.   The one I would recommend is Cornish Farm, only a 3 mile drive from M5/J25.  But book soon.   Best of luck with your trip, enjoy.

As far as I can see, your tour barely gets you into Devon, never mind Cornwall😁

But it’s your tour and your itinerary. Have a nice time👍

Apologies for deleting my previous post - accidentally quoted the wrong post...😟

We stayed at Clover Fields a few years ago.  We would have booked Blackshaw Moor CAMC or Buxton, but it was over the winter and they were both closed.  Clover Fields is a good site, but they didn't allow water hook up on serviced pitches.  As it was a cold spell, they switched off the water to avoid freezing pipes.

The thing we remembered about Clover Fields was actually the person who was pitched next to us in a Motorhome.  It was none other than the actor,  Brian Capron who was in a show in Buxton.  Many will be more familiar with the villain character he played in Coronation Street - the serial killer, Richard Hillman, who unsuccessfully tried to get rid on Gail and David Platt.
