Hi, I have just booking a stay at Troutbeck Head later this year and was wondering if anybody had been since the refurbishment, what do you think etc.

Hi,

We had 5 days there just over a week ago. We love the site, regardless of any refurbishments, the views over Blencathra from some pitches are to die for. When we were there one loo block was closed. We were a little disappointed with the refurbed loo block. The underfloor heating is gone & although they have been restructured there are still the same number of loos & sinks. There is one extra shower in each section, but I feel it’s very poor as it’s so small you have to stand diagonally to bend down to wash feet. We were there in very cold weather so had coats etc with us when we went to the loo block & in the tiny shower once they were hung up there was little room to get dried. The large shower cubicles have been replaced with standard sized cc cubicles. Having said all that the new tiles etc are all very nice. The old grass pitches at the bottom of the site have been replaced with hardstanding pitches - very sensible. There is still no WiFi nor any papers on sale. We were quite happy with the old loo block & feel all the needed was retiling & new floors. It remains one of our favourite sites, because of the views & spaciousness.

Yes twice in fact since it was done up. You can see my reviews on the site. Also just got back.

Externally the pitches have had a make over with new gravel and the centre grass one have been converted to HS. SP got a make over before with new service points. The arrivals area is slightly different and more car parking has been made.

The two shower blocks have been completely remodelled inside. The large entrance hall have been halved with a new laundry room in one, and the drying room is now accessed from the outside. There are new family and toddler bathrooms. New disabled facilities too In the toilet and shower parts, everything has changed. New very 'posh' tiling everywhere, and showers/privacy cubicles on one side and toilets on the other (if your male right to the showers, left to the toilets). The showers themselves are different shapes, with a changing area with a good sized bench before the shower area, again a good size. New shower fittings too. The dish washing area has been enlarged (taking up the old space where the empyting point was) and again very well fitted while the emptying point has been moved to the opposite end of the block but still under cover.

On the whole it looks very impressive and probably sets the standard for club sites.

Most importantly the fish and chips van still comes every Friday.

We were there at the end of September just after it re-opened and were impressed. The new facilities were good a big improvement on the old ones they are very modern and I found the shower cubicles ok space wise. Also the pitches have been improved with new fresh stone chips ect. Overall a great improvement and we look forward to returning.

All sounds promising, we’re up there in June πŸ™‚

only thing (and nothing to do with the refurbishment) is that there have been reports of midges very near the pitches by stream in summer time. All other pitches are fine

Thanks for the tip πŸ‘ From there, we’re going to Bunree. Not sure we’ll  be able to avoid the blighters there πŸ™

It's a bit of a drive (not far) but if you want a good meal out, can recommend the Horse & Farrier in Threlkeld. smile
