There was a discussion on this subject started by royandsharont when Club Together first started, but the thread was "lost" when the forum was migrated.

Perhaps we can collectively re-create a list of sites within a short walk/bike ride or with easy public transport links to towns and places of interest.

Please keep your remarks brief so the list is easy to read.

Here goes ........................

Moderator Edit:

I've made this 'sticky' so it doesn't get lost down the thread.

We can thoroughly endorse Southport as an excellent site where a car is not needed once you have arrived.  We have stayed on several occasions and cycling is excellent from the site with wide shared cycleways and walkways, the Merseyrail connection for Liverpool and so many things within walking distance- including Southport centre, Morrisons Supermarket and the Park and bus services, as well as the sea!  We have been here Summer and Winter, never a disappointment.

I am new to this site and maybe I am missing something but the wife and I need to find sites that have EHU and have a town or large village within a 5-10 minute walk, public transport is not an option for us as wife is disabled and uses a mobility scooter so she will not entertain using buses, the site must have EHU for her medical equipment. Is there a way to search this info as the default is village/shops within 1 mile which is often to far for us. We are going to try Warwick race course as it looks very close to the shops but it took ages reading reviews and googling maps for the route & distance etc.

Any recommendations would be great but please only a short walk (and no steps) within approx 100 miles of Leicester. Many thanks

I hope st6596 has found this point in the thread that he was looking for the other day. smile

You can lead a horse to water but .........

Some of the sites mentioned here maybe fine for fit members, some may still struggle.

Tend to agree, people do tend to judge the nearness of things by their own level of fitness. OK how else would they. I would much prefer people to mention how far you are away from destinations in measurement and with Goggle Earth/Maps this is fairly easy to establish and is the method I use. Someone's brisk 10 minute walk will for someone else be at least double. Oh the delights of growing old!

Always good to look at a street map to guestimate walking distances or ask Mr Google. smile

One with contours is useful. Mr Google seems to have a different definition of mainly flat than I do.😂 Cirencester Park is a case in point. Google says a mile to Waitrose, mostly flat. They should try walking back having bought too much shopping.☹️It’s definitely uphill.

I find it pays to do your own research. Get it wrong and you only have yourself to blame.

Totally agree. Reviews and basic maps are fine but a look at the 25000 OS map will give you a much better idea of what’s involved. You get all sorts of description of the ease / difficulty / time needed of walking into Buxton from the CAMC site. A quick look at the contours through the wood clearly shows it isn’t going to be a walk in the park.

Although to be fair to Mr Google it handles this one a bit better, drawing a profile and giving you the height difference. Although whilst I might have done it in 35 minutes uphill a few years ago. I suspect it would take a bit longer now.

How about Hillhead (Devon) bus stop directly at entrance to site…go left on bus for Kingswear Dartmouth or bus right for Brixham, Paignton, Torquay

Fantastic site and facilities!
