Who killed all the rabbits at New England Bay?

It’s general. We used to see a lot of rabbits here at home but now not a single one is to be seen. The rabbit population is being decimated by disease and a little online research will tell you all about it.

You were a little hasty in suggesting CAMC is to blame I think. They may be many things but I don't think they’re rabbit killers.

Given that rabbits live side by side with campers on most Club sites I can't imagine its a deliberate policy unless there is a specific problem that needed attention. Probably best to ask the site staff and report back what they say otherwise all you are going to get is speculation which will lead to arguments.

Every so often, sadly myxomatosis hits a particular area, and it decimates the rabbit population.

it’s an awful death for the rabbits, shooting and netting is sometimes carried out, and whilst never nice, it’s a quicker and kinder end to their lives. We used to see rabbits with Myxi on a Scottish Site we visited a few times. Owner was friends with OH’s family, and the gun owning members used to take guns and ferrets with them to cull the diseased ones. They would get dozens every evening, poor things were in a terrible state.

We’ve seen populations of rabbits, ducks and other creatures boom and crash in many areas and on sites too. There seems to be a natural cycle to many of these fluctuations although human interference can be involved. The recent coastal crash of shellfish and fish on the east coast is a worry. This devastating event seems to have emanated around the Tees outwash into the North Sea and the cause is currently under scrutiny.

Rabbits almost non existent here in north Devon too. Last year zillions, now none. There is rumour of a big cat hereabouts though!

Plenty of rabbits at Moreton in Marsh when I was there two weeks ago. I actually commented to my friends who I went to visit that I could not remember seeing so many rabbits around the van in a very long time. I was pitched on the border, by the road. The rabbits were slightly more brave than usual as well. 

They are all in Pembrokeshire,, it is like watching Watership Down @St. Davids Lleithyr Meadow. Hundreds of the them!

Some years ago Ferry Meadows site and the country  Park rabbit population was desimated by an out break of mixi ,the population of rabbits has since recovered as those who visit will have noticed

When we visited New England Bay in September 2020, there were dead rabbits all over the site!  We visited again in September 2021 and there were no rabbits.  One of the wardens told us that there had had to be a huge cull due to myxomatosis.
