Tragic old people having fun

On another forum (not caravan / motorhome / camping related) I read that it’s “tragic” to see old people enjoying themselves at the Glastonbury Festival. So there we have it, old people must not enjoy themselves unless they wish to be tragic figures.

(Age was not defined, but ensuing comments would seem to suggest that meant anyone over 40.)

At what age will you retire from enjoyment? What will you give up? What will you rush to do before you become a  ”tragic” figure? What will you go on enjoying? What is old?

Indeed, have we a duty to spare these sensitive young people the spectacle of old age enjoyment?

Is someone taking the p**s, the youngest member of the Cure is 59 oldest 63 yrs.

The rather delicious Kylie is 51yrs

Sheryl Crow 57yrs

Proclaimers 57yrs

The killers 33yrs to 44yrs

Janet Jackson 53yrs

These youngsters are still showing the way. How old are the Rolling Stones? 72 to 82

Guess we can carry on a bit longer.

Most certainly.

The post to which I made reference in the OP was on... dare I say it .. Mumsnet! And the poster did not get much support (from what I could see: there were 1000 posts and I did not wade through the whole lot). She was given a hard time. But posters are not always polite on Mumsnet. (Sometimes I wish one were able to be as frank, blunt and honest on CT!)

Many posters made the same point as you do about the ages of the performers.

I visited Glastonbury in 2013 as a 58yr old, the year the Stones headlined. We did feel quite old but it didn’t stop us having a brilliant time, would not have missed it for the world. Fabulous atmosphere, bought back many memories of me trying to be a hippy in the 1970s.

It was the year Bruce Forsyth did his thing there, the adoration of a young (huge) crowd for an old man was something to behold. Sir Bruce was clearly touched by the reception he received and everybody had a great time.  So, Janet... you’re wrong, age does not need to be a barrier, unless you allow it to be.

" Age does not need to be a barrier "

Sorry, seaside bill, but your wrong there 'cos I always use a barrier to lean on while I'm waiting for the youngsters to catch up wink as it helps me hold the telefoto lens still and  focused.
